Help USB Connection Major Annoyance

Whenever I connect my phone to my PC via USB, it both rings (like a call coming in) AND it plays V-Cast in my browser from Verizon. Every. Single. Time.

Is there any way to shut these off? Sorry for the frustration!

When you first plug it in, it takes you to the verizon site. It has a place to check if you do not want it to do this, otherwise it will do it every time. I'm sorry but because I caught it the first time I plugged it in it hasn't done it again so I'm not sure how to change the setting. But it means there IS a setting, either with your phone, browser or computer. Just need to find it.

EDIT: I did a Google search and found the hidden setting to stop the V-Cast ad. Pretty bad that it's not more intuitive, but anyway. Now if I can figure out how to shut that ringer off I'll be set.

To turn off the Verizon web site you right click on the Motorola icon in the task bar (when the phone is connected to the computer via USB) and disable the startup web site.

Yeah, thanks. I'm too conditioned to expect a "runonce.exe" program or a pop-up saying not to show this again. What was so frustrating is that I had to plug and unplug the phone several times last night. And having to close that ad repeatedly without knowing how to stop it .... And I couldn't use the software even if I wanted because it's not compatible with 64-bit Win 7.

Is there any advantage to using V-Cast? I've never found any, but if this is any different I would be curious to know.

V-cast is for some people, i never use it so if you don't have a use for it get rid of it.

as for the ringing and stuff when you plug it in. put your phone on silent, or just activate where when you have it upside down it mutes.

I normally have mine on silent so i don't notice it.

I never downloaded the V-Cast to get rid of it -- I can't run it on 64-bit Win 7. I just needed to get rid of the annoying ad (which I've now done). I'll try the phone-flip and see if that works for the ringer. The reason I don't silence my phone is because I receive emergency email alerts from work on it. But I could flip it over for a few seconds to see if that works. It just seems odd that I have this obnoxiously loud ringer every time I plug it in to begin with -- if it's at night when the kids are asleep it's not what you want. I've not heard of anyone else experiencing this issue, so I definitely wonder what's going on. But at any rate, I'll set the flip config and see if that works.

Ok, the flip setting didn't work. I flipped the phone over both before and during the connection but I still got the ringer. However, I did discover why I'm getting the ringer when I connect the phone via USB to the PC. So, JUST in case anyone else happens to experience this ...

It turns out that I had set my "general" notification sound (under Settings) to a custom ringtone on my SD card. But it was NOT the ringer sound I was getting when connecting the phone via USB. And in order to select a custom ringtone, I had to use an app from the Market to give me access to my custom files rather than having to select one of the preinstalled internal ringtones. This normally works fine.

But when connecting the phone via USB to the PC, the phone temporarily loses its ability to use the custom ringtone on the SD card. And since I didn't have one of the internal ringtones selected as my "general" notification, the phone defaulted to the ringer instead of a ringtone. So, I had to change my "general" notification sound to one of the stock internal ringtones in order to get rid of the ringer. Now, when I connect the phone via USB, I get that internal notification ringtone instead of the ringer because it doesn't require access to the SD card like my custom selection did. True, it's still not "silent" -- but it's 100% better than the ringing sound. Simple problem, simple solution, not necessarily so simple to diagnose.

FYI, there is a known bug in the phone where if you use the flip to silence (Smart Profile: Face Down) your phone will never ring again. Motorola knows about it, but no timeframe on a fix. There were two ways to get it back, but the most effective one was to do a factory reset. I had this happen and it sucks having to set up your phone all over from scratch again.

My phone still rings fine. However, I never could get the flip-over silence to work with that checked. Count myself fortunate, I guess.
