Is there any difference between this program and any other IM program?

The main difference is that you never have to worry about signing in, singing out, etc. This is similar to the difference between IM and text messaging. While it might seem like a subtle difference at first, the beauty with text messaging is that you have a unique number to reach your phone and it's an always-accessible number. MessageNow is the same, except it's a unique username you choose.

Instead of paying per message with 140 characters limit, we are providing an unrestricted, free messaging service. A service for which you will not see a bill at the end of the month :p

In addition, since our service simply uses a data connection which more and more people have these days, in future versions we will be able to provide more advanced features such as sending pictures, amongst others.

downloading this, hopefully its better than handcent:)

Uninstalled, it was force closing.

There is a prbolem with this app not running on 1.5 version and they are aware of this, i am chatting with the tech and they are working on this problem.

We have just published update 1.01 to fix the force closing issue with Android OS 1.5. Go to the Market, browse to the MessageNow app, and hit Update to install it.

Probably a silly question- but I'm not up on the iPhone. Do my iPhone friends need this app as well to talk? Or does it come pre-loaded for them like BBM?

Also, I downloaded this on my Droid, hit Compose, and a box comes up that just says "Compose". Can't do anything else in it. Am I missing something?

yes the iphone user needs to download and install the "messagenow" app as well. I tried it with an iPhone buddy recently and it worked great!

how can you possibly make it work with bbm?

i mean lord i wish you could, but doesnt seem possible being that bbm needs a pin that droids don't have....

bbm needs a pin yes but they never said they would use bbm. with messagenow you have an account on their own server which pushes the message to you, it doesnt have anything to do with bbm... it would just be an app on the blackberry.
