hello

i'm having samsung galaxy with 1.5 android right now.
i heard that there's a firmware that updates it to 1.6..

1) where can i find it?

2) is there a tutorial of how to install it?

3) do i need to backup anything before? and how? (maybe internet connection settings?)

4) can someone please put a short summary about this update? is it worth updating? is it buggy?

5) is it official?

6) will i have the keyboard with the language i want? if not, how do i get the language back?

i was reading here a bit, and got confused with all those firmwares.

Thanks alot

Samsung gave up on a update. They care more for selling the new phones then giving a proper support for it (no money income from this). :p

it's not that straight forward. If they updated i7500 to 2.1/2.2., I would be a happy customer, and I would possibly buy a Samsung, not in one year, but in two or three years. Now though, I will not buy Samsung at all, or at least the chance of me buying it is much smaller.

For better or worse, the ONLY company that (I've seen) who does updates with a customer focus is Apple. Anyone else, just doesn't seem to put in enough software resources for it. They prefer to churn out new hardware.

Contacted Samsung this week.

My email to Samsung ref 1.6-

Hi.

Please can you advise if/when we may expect an update to the version of Android on the i7500. Currently UK users are still on Android 1.5 whereas some European users are on Android 1.6.

Android is meant to be the platform that always allows users to update their software to receive the best experience throughout the life of the handset. However we are being deprived of Android 1.6, 2.0, 2.1, and 2.2. Whilst it is understood by the community that the i7500 can only reasonably handle Android 1.6, it is obvious that it can handle as Samsung have provided the update for other users.

Obviously there will be a time when a handset cannot handle the latest version of Android, however it seems that us early adopters of your first Android handset were cut adrift very early in the anticipated life-cycle of the handset, certainly not what we were expecting.

Therefore, as I asked earlier, please could you advise if or when we may receive an update to our handsets?

Or, failing an update being available, do you have any of the free Galaxy S handsets that you were giving away to unhappy iPhone customers left for an unhappy i7500 customer?

Kind Regards,

(my name)

Their reply to me-

I don't get it..are they (samsung) working on a 1.6 firmware or something newer?
anyway, i updated to galaxo 1.6...it works ok..thanks for the support guys...

some annoying bugs in galaxo:
when i click on the home screen inside some application, it does go to the home screen, but it also kills that application.

phone sometimes shut down without a reason

the phone becomes laggy with the app: screeble lite (only when u turn it on..if it runs in the startup it works fine...weird..).

the phone is laggy sometimes, or gets stuck so bad that u gotta take the battery out.

Sam*censored* apparently writes different answers according to region of the world. Maybe, just maybe (I don't believe in it) like someone wrote they will release 1.6 Android in UK. But why would you want to have android 1.6 aka Donut on your phone, when a group of developers (give a beer to drakaz & co.) are working there ass off to bring us 2.2 Android Froyo on our phone.

About Galaxo, maybe someone using it can help you there.

what's the point of this 2.2? the phone is probably too weak to run it anyway..
all the games that require android 2.1+ won't run well either.
the only thing that would work is BT.

oh and another annoying bug in galaxo..it force closes on everything possible all the time..lol..
when i click on "wait" insted of force closing, everything works fine..

Has anyone anywhere on the planet actually had an official 1.6. For work reasons I cant go the unofficial route!

Yes, KPN users in the Netherlands have.

http://androidforums.com/samsung-i7500/89419-new-1-6-xx-rom-still-jb2-jc2-though.html#post845630

(XEN seems to be a code for KPN Hi or something like that)

The thread contains a download link too.

EDIT: also, when you use FUS downloader with the default text in the input fields, it will point you a VIA firmware with the same JC2/JB2 PDA and Phone versions.
