with the leaked 2.2????? I dont pretend to know a whole lot about the rom making world, but will there still be people messing with the leaked version or will they all be playing with the official version??? I really love the battery life and charge speed of the leaked and dont know if Im ready to go back now. LOL.

Do you think it will be worth going back to stock and waiting for the ota update??

Absolutely not. If you want to update to the official OTA just wait until it starts rolling out and I know someone will post the update.zip on here and you can update that way. Then you can update the same way you did to the leaked 2.2. Worst case scenario, after the OTA starts you can always flash back to 2.1 then in settings you can manually check for updates and get it that way. Why give up flash when the OTA might not start for 2 weeks (that will still be the first half of September)?

for me its a no-brainer to stay with 2.2 now....who knows if 2.2 ota will be rootable out of the box due to a last second motorolla exploit fix (just a guess that they would try and do that)...happy with flyX from birdman and the coming roms all based off the current 2.2

i dont think i could stand going back to 2.1 and then dealing with no superuser access for awhile...a dx running 2.1 to me is boring and pretty worthless

I've heard that Moto won't give the update to those who have the leaked 2.2. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm sticking with 2.1 for now. I have it rooted but not on 2.2. My main worry is that even though I have 2.1 because it's rooted I won't get the 2.2 upgrade? Is this right? Or can I leave the sucker rooted for the time being?

Right now I'm on my phone tethered to my laptop via wifi. It works great and VZW can *(&*)* it. I'm not paying an extra $20+ for a feature that's free with the OS.

i would think when 2.2 ota comes rooted users will get it, but then loose root

it ll be interesting to see how development goes once the ota 2.2 goes out given that roms are being built on the current 2.2 build. i wonder if the devs will scrap what theyre working on and stop supporting the leaked build and immediately get to work on the new one? i think that ll set back the rom torrent that seems to be ready to be unleashed

You don't want to get it from them/Moto if you already have root, 2.2 and recovery. They (Moto) are just out to break our ability to flash ROM'S so I'll wait until a Dev has gone over any new updates and make sure we still have those things before I update from now on.

Here is what Birdman has to say on the subject and I think I'll agree with him

"Dear Moto, thank you for sparing us the trouble of dodging your 2.2 froyo update and making it easy to stay rooted...Much love - Steven."

The leaked 2.2 is for the X (hence this being in an X forum). I bet if you ask over on the Evo forums you'll get answers you need pertaining to your device.

The camera had a zoom feature?! Never know that.

When you are taking pictures the volume buttons are supposed to control zoom. On the leaked froyo if you push the volume button a grey bar appears on the top left of the screen, that is the zoom level, it just doesn't work on the leaked froyo.

Yeah I found it the day before I rooted, but I am fine with it with no zoom... rarely take pictures that require zoom anyways...

Yeah I don't take that many with zoom either, that is why it is not worth giving up the other features of froyo.

I tried flyX but it didn't work on there either. I went back to the leaked 2.2 because there wasn't voice input on the initial release of flyX

Well This is all I can show you so it isn't BS.... My Fly X android version then the lil zoom bar... I guess the picture didn't end up showing up though... :(

I ordered my X last Friday and the expected ship date is 9/10. Am I pretty much going to be stuck with the OTA 2.2 by then with no chance to root it?

i dont think the phone will have 2.2 installed out of the box and there really is no set date for the ota yet. even if it started say 9/6 with the pace it rolls out you'd be in the clear to set up the phone and root it.

also, correct me if im wrong, but even when the update message is pushed you can cancel it and still go root. it would just keep sending you the message i believe, not force the ota?
