Anybody know how to customize the LED light settings? I've managed to change the indicator light color for handcent sms, but I've had no luck digging through the menus for any other options.

It seems that the light is capable of multiple colors. I'm thinking a cycle when the phone rings would be pretty cool. Any ideas?

I'm sorry to hijack this with a question, but how do you change the color? I missed that along the way...

It's in notification settings in the main settings menu in handcent sms, i haven't seen any options native to the OS however.

I think the default takes the color of the icon and makes it then, twitter is blue, gmail s red etc... but this isn't help to you :p

I didn't know that, so thanks! That is actually interesting.

Down load missed call from the market lots of customization options

I'll try that out.

Lots of colors can happen but they are all with apps, nothing native.
K-9 is great for email; I have also heard Gmail notifier works well
SMS popup is good
Missed Call (i have heard it’s struggling a bit after the last update though) and Blink will allow you change a few different ones at once
Nothing found for voicemails yet though - only missed or incoming calls

-Blink get's so so reviews. Does not work for me on Droid rooted. same for many others.
-Handcent still works for SMS and MMS custom colors.
-Missed Call app is busted also for colored LED on 2.2 Droid & dev admits it and just does not keep up on the app. Calendar events no longer work, missed call LED reverts to stock
-Calendar notification can do custom color LED for calendar events
-gMail notification can do custom color for gMails
-Tasker can be used to adjust SMS LED settings.. but I get 50/50 results with colored LED
-Blinker fails... see below for review

Problem is that the app would have to be for standard LED notifications only - otherwise everyone and their mother would ask "Can you make this app make the LED blink when blahblahbalh happens?"

However, I am pretty sure it can be done....And since this is a long weekend, I think it is time to dust off the SDK which I haven't used since....yesterday. LOL.

IOW, someone needs to write an app specifically for changing the LEDs and including just about every type of notification out there, eh?

I have emailed 3-4 devs, who make 1 or something similar, on this very topic. A few responded, some not.

I would pay $$$, and so would many others, and find it just plain shocking, that 1 app cannot change sound alert and LED color for:

1. gmail
2. missed calls
3. Talk
4. Calendar event
5. Voice
6. waiting VVM

etc. etc. etc. This is such a no brainer app and Missed Call app is so close to the concept BUT it cannot change stock things like Talk or Voice from the stock green LED. Plus, the calendar function and missed call both broke in his 2.2 latest release, which was back in May, and never responds to emails or maintains his app.

So, I am dealing with like 3+ apps to try to get this all done and still, for example, have no way in 2.2 to get a custom color LED reliably.

Cyanogenmod 6 has a lot of options for changing led colors

maybe so.. but the app I am envisioning, like a truly working version of the defunct Missed Call, would not require root. It is just an app to help ALL Droid users who want custom LED colors and sounds for alerts.

plus, I am not much of a theme guy and a stand alone app would transcend any theme you go to. it would suck to setup al your alerts, then change themes.

of course this could be a rooted app, but all the 3-4 apps out there that currently do these things are NOT root apps.. so that proves LED and alert customization does not need root ability. thus, best to make it a paid stand alone app.

I feel your pain. I have given up, just made sure that a few were changed using 3rd party apps - but it is still hit and miss with FroYo....

Yeah, I am hoping that other source built ROMs will be the same....

Gonna be kinda hard to change the notification and sounds for system apps without root access....

I just want a series of LED color changes when the phone rings. I'm temporarily obsessed with this idea now.

I have been obsessed with the idea for a while - I am going to try to look into this a lot more this weekend - there has to be a way to do it, but I suspect that it is going to be yet another "needs root" application.

yes, this issue pains me for sure. the most basic ability, not built in

anyway, what you say here is partially true I think. For Talk and Voice, it seems your correct as no app I have ever seen ever had that ability. And I have tried them all.

BUT, the app Missed Call use to be able to do custom LED colors for a Missed Call.. And Tasker can do it with some degree of success.. well, calls and missed calls are "system apps" and a system function, no?

but hey.. I am rooted and always plan to be so if that is the only way to get it done and get an app made that can handle all notifications for custom colored LEDs.. so be it. we just need 1 working app :)

A system function versus a system app are different things.

But I am wondering if there is a workaround (but I suspect this would start to eat processes) in that it catches the notification as it is in the act and redirects it how you want it to be redirected - so a blue LED notification trigger gets caught by the app and then re-routed to become a red LED notification trigger....

I think with a rooted app, though, you'd change the notification directly in the system itself, so there is no need for a rerouting, and thus no need for it to monitor for notifications at all - and that would be the better way (and less resource-intensive way) to do it.

sounds like you got it figure out.. make it.. I'll watch for it next week ;)

You may want to try Blinker developed by djbrutale of xda-developers.. He said, it may require root permission for some devices but it's worth a try.. I am using HTC desire and it did not prompt me for a root permission..

Quoting him:

"Blinker - Charging LED rape

This app uses the charging LEDs to notify the user about...
*a recevied SMS
*a missed/rejected CALL
*battery charging process
*signal strengh value + NATIVE blinking - e.g: <35% led=red, >35% led=amber, > 70% led=green

For your personal needs, its possible to change the color and blinking speed of the charging LED.
Available Colors: red, green, blue, amber
Available Speeds in ms: 100,250,600,800,1000,1500,2000,3000,5000,10000, and native

*For some devices root permission is required*"

this "Blinker" app you mention is not in the market or appbrain.

So I found it here and is "technically" for the Nexus One

it did ask for root permissions on my Droid

I only care about it for Missed Calls at this stage

Tried it on Droid rooted 2.2 (yes, I know it is for Nexus)

I also got the "root does not work" when i first clicked on test led for the Calls section... i am rooted & superuser is granted but still got that error 1 time.. but then it allowed me to do the test.

"amber" is not a color for Droids. we have "purple" and it is not just a name difference.

yet to get a missed call, will report if it works as I selected blue.

EDIT: it does not take over and kill the stock green blinker for missed calls on a droid. in fact, it blinks WITH the stock green.. green, blue, blue, blue, green, green, blue, green and sometimes they line up and you get cyan.

Plus.. once I cleared the missed call, blue continued to blink and I had to use a TK to kill the app to get it to stop
