I really dislike the power button so I don't use it anymore

It's located on the side so it is hard to press it without causing the keyboard to slide. To make matters worse it is very flush with the body of the phone and has very little tactile feedback (it doesn't have a satisfying click).

I totally solved this by downloading a free app called "No Lock". This app will eliminate the need to unlock your phone once your phone is turned on but more importantly it allows the volume buttons to wake the phone. Since the volume buttons are 1000% better than the power button this is an awesome improvement for me. The volume buttons have a reassuring click and are not so flush with the body so they are easy to use. Now I can wake the phone very easily with one hand by simply tapping either of the volume buttons. I also purchased another app (for a buck) called "Screen off". It's an app that will cause your phone to enter sleep mode by tapping an icon on screen. Between these 2 apps I NEVER have to touch that lousy power button anymore.

I like the Epic's power button better than my EVO. The EVO's is on top and hard to reach. You almost need two hands to power on/off. + for the Epic.

After have the EVO with its "sunken" power button im in love with the switch on the Epic. Its very responsive and I can easily flick it with my thumb. I have no problems with it at all.

Totally agreed, OP.

Honestly, I think the Epic is an epic failure ergonomically. Not only does the keyboard want to slide out, but why would you put any hard keys directly opposite each other. Doesn't Newton have something to say about that kind of thing? I could go on about how disappointing this phone has been, but good manners forbid, so...

pick up the phone with your left hand and the entire process is much easier. After it becomes habit, I believe ya'll wont find it annoying.

Yep, I alway pick my phone up with the left hand (i'm a righty) and my index finger is right there on the power button, naturally...also when holding it, the other 3 fingers prevent the phone from sliding

Hi. I'm a Sprint employee and Epic owner/user.

Just wanted to say thanks for the great tip, esp for those who dislike using the power button. I agree with some of the posters here in that the button placement and design seems counterintuitive; placing buttons on opposite sides of the device, being flush mount and tucked half underneath, etc. What I question is why they make the power/sleep button flush and less distinct, and the dedicated camera button stick out and more pronounced. Seems backward, or at least they should make all the buttons similar to the camera button.

Thanks for reporting your issues and being Sprint customers! We're listening!
