Root HTC Music Player sorting/art issues

The stock music player on ROM I am using (Virtuous 2.3) is, I assume, the latest out with the most recent OTA (8/26?).

I am having a beast of a time getting it to play well with the phone. I had a similar problem using Third Wave, but did not have this problem with FrankenROM.

I see ONE album art, it isn't even the first artist by track name, alphabet or anything else. I am not sure exactly how the phone decided on this particular piece of art. It is the same art for every track. My tracks are no longer broken down by artist either, like they once were. It is a huge folder called "Unknown Artist" that is literally filled with all of my tracks.

Previously, in 2.1, my songs were all sorted problem by Artist>Album>Song. Each tab worked properly as well, though I sorted by artist most times. All of my tracks are in the same folder on the internal storage (EMMC). I have never had an issue with it prior to Third Wave and now Virtuous.

I keep my music on the internal storage because I presently only have a 4gb SD card and feel that it is sufficient for what I do with the phone, especially considering that I've got 8 gigs built into the phone that I should be able to use. That is all beside the point.

I searched prior to making this post and didn't see anything else relevant to the issue that I am having. Is anyone else plagued by this or a similar issue? Is there a newer/better/different version of the HTC Music Player that might fix the issue?

Edit: I doubt this makes a difference, but I had this issue with both the Stock kernel and the Hydra kernel. I am currently on the stock kernel because I just installed a kernel patch for Virtuous 2.3.

Bump.

Also...

I have tagged and retagged all of my music. Though everything was working in 2.1, I decided to go ahead and sort through all of it and check all of the tags with two different media programs. I know that the tags are about as correct as they can be.

I am still having this issue. The song name is there but no other information is available. The songs refuse to fix their tagging issues and the album art refuses to fix itself. Even though I cleared cache, deleted all of the albumart and thumbnails from everything I still have this problem. I even formatted the internal storage and placed the music back on it again, all to no avail.

Was there a change made to the HTC Music player that I just happened to miss? Did I somehow manage to corrupt ALL of my music on multiple occasions?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Im not sure if this helps, but try a different player, i was never a fan of the htc player, you could try my favorite 3 (cubed), or Mixzing, DoubleTwist. I had this issue as well with htc, all of my tags were always wrong, and never album art. Cubed and Mixzing both find album art for the album.

Mixzing is the only one that you mentioned that will play songs from the internal storage of the phone. I have tribed Cubed and DoubleTwist, both. While they are pretty good, they can't help me with my current issue, because it would require me to move my music. Mixzing has the same issue with tagging and art as the HTC music player does.

If I could find a player that had the music properly tagged and/or could show album art I'd probably be ecstatic. It's not that I really like the HTC music player, it just happens to be one of the only players that reads the internal storage.

i had to take all my music off, go into windows media player, find album info, even if it had the right info!, then sync to my phone again for it to fix. give that a try

I added the folder of music from/to the phone to the Music Library (Windows 7), let everything load, restarted and then removed it and restarted. I also removed the music and formatted the internal storage again. I then created a new folder, added the music back to the library and synced it via WMP. Still no help.

This adventure has been a whole lot of fun. I am trying Sony MediaGo right now. Someone recommended it over at XDA. I'll report back if I have any success.

[Q] HTC Music Player doesn't do well with WMA files after Android 2.2 update - xda-developers

Seems like EVO users are having just as many issues. I found a couple threads that are just one post or so that was describing the issue on the Desire. Seems promising for a fix if it's not just me with the issue.

Looks like some of the people with the issue are using AAC or WMA audio formats for their music (I am using WMA) and are having the same issue. So, I'm not crazy or an idiot. Well, maybe, but not for this.
