This is my first UD ROM ever - I loaded one once, looked at the perty LWP and that was it, lol. So this is the first time for more than 2 minutes.
This review is done with a Moto Droid 1 with the P3 Sapphire 1.2LV kernel with scaling via SetCPU and LauncherPro.
The install was relatively painless via manual CW Recovery install method. Triple wipe, installed zip - no extra theme installed. Logged me in, synced, no errors, reboots, or freak outs. Probably took about 7 minutes or so to sync everything and restore market apps.
I then pulled the battery and rebooted for the sake of the apps catching up.
The boot is FAST though. About 20 seconds from "M" to lock screen.
The ROM is very snappy and once i retweaked LauncherPro, the sliding was much smoother and very fast. Much smaller redraws (a LP thing), which made me very happy. Multitasking is a breeze. No lag between taking a phone call, jumping back to music, and then sending a picture (for example)
Battery life is TBD, but I am looking at about 11-14 hours with regular use right now as an estimate. Which is "OK" for me. I have seen better with this kernel though, in LithMod. The Chevy 1.2ULV has reaped great battery results in the past, but I think it's phone dependent at times, and this one won't take it. Jake's 1200 kernel worked well with this ROM but I have not tried Slayher as it sucked my battery last try on a different ROM.

Ultimate Settings = ALL IN ONE + STREAMLINED
This is one of the cleanest custom setting UI I have ever seen. VERY impressive. Device info, including changelog is right there. Integrated settings that make Spare Parts obselete and useless. There are options to remove and add apps like Pandora and Amazon MP3 for example. These are basically one touch scripts. There are other familiar scripts like ads and camera sounds and "switch" scripts as well.
-The UD Extras are laid out very nicely. Click Fonts, and you SEE the fonts as they will be. Same goes for boot animations and lock screens as well. I NEVER added a font on the fly because I couldn't see what it looked like without installing it. Now we can see it!
I won't spoil all the setting goodies, but I will say that you can reassign the HOME soft key on a Long Press! So if you want to get to navigation - set it and long press the home key.
Since exiting Car Home completely wipes it out - I reassigned Car Home to the long press Home, which is a nice feature for me
This feature will actually help to keep me with UD unless other devs do it, or perhaps I never noticed.
There are some pretty sweet ringtones and notifications as well. Some nice, short and sweet ones that are very professional. Different alarm tones as well.
Bugs:
- In the Ultimate Settings, the app installation doesn't work for me, but the remove apps works. I tried to install C2P with this script and nothing happened. First off, there was no confirmation that it "installed" so I was left wondering if it did once I initiated it. Rebooted, and it hadn't installed. Booo, but not the end of the world. No solution found.
- My Jawbone Icon bluetooth has randomly disconnected and then connected a couple times while taking a call. No solution found.
(Not a Bug) *The one thing it don't like is the static boot animation - it looks like the phone is stuck, because there is no animation. Tricky when trying new kernels and such*
Themes are starting to come out, but there aren't many as of yet.
This is faster and smoother than other recent ROMs such as Chevy 4.7, BFY 1.5, and LithMod (as a frame of reference).
Being as objective as possible given that this is considered by some a more "controversial" ROM and that I have never tried previous UD releases, this ROM gets a 4.5
There is still a little cleanup needed in aisle 5 in regards to the scripts, and battery could be improved some. As time progresses I hope that this ROM doesn't start slowing down as some ROMs seem to do, even with cache wipes.
Nicely done, let's see who one ups this one!

Initial Setup:
A new boot ani, I see. Actually, not sure I can call it an animation, because that requires a moving picture, and it just says "Ultimate Droid". Would have been cooler if it went to something else after that, but seeing as you can easily change between several boot anis, I can't knock it too much.
Boots within 2 mins, restored all but 6 apps, but for some reason it took longer than usual. Took about 45 mins where it usually happens between 15-30 mins. Other than that, business as usual.
Appearance:
I've always been a fan of the general theming of UD. You don't really need to theme over it, but I've grown a lil too accustomed to Watermark'd recently. Thankfully Stewart's on top of things pretty quickly.
One thing you've gotta love is the customizable live wallpapers. You can change the picture and the color scheme. Would be even nicer if you could add a custom picture from your gallery, but considering no one else even has this feature, ya gotta appreciate it.
Peformance:
Very fluid ROM with virtually no lag. The stock kernel is very capable, but you know you're gonna flash your go-to kernel immediately. I went with slayher's 1.2GHz, scaled back to 1GHz. 1.2GHz was not stable on this ROM, as it usually is on others, with the only exception being that I can't run Quadrant that high. At 1.1GHz, my high score was 1604.
Real time performance, though, is quite beautiful. Screen transition sare seemless, and all apps seem to start and run with no issue. The only thing worth mentioning is the Market for me seems pretty slow. I had the same quirk with CM6, as well, so there's a chance it's just my phone.
Goodies:
Sometimes I add this section with another one, but with this ROM it really needs it's own. If you've used it before, you know UD is the only ROM that rivals CM when it comes to extras, but there are places it goes that CM doesn't. In the Settings menu, you have Ultimate Droid Settings at the very top. Here you can apply quick commands, back up and restore, remove, install, or modify apps, change fonts (and you can see how they'd look), boot anis, wallpapers, and there's so much else. If you love customization, this ROM is for you.
App and System Function:
I haven't run into any probs with apps not working properly, but I do get a FC I've only seen a few times: Android System needs to FC. That to me seems odd. Gladly, it doesn't happen often, but it's def worth noting. Otherwise, everything else is good to go.
Battery life seems a bit better than some of the previous ROMs I've been on recently, but it's still not exactly what I'd call great. Right now, I'm down to 60% after 9 hours with some moderate, but pretty light use. If I'm really pushing it, it'll suck down pretty fast. But like I said, it's better than others I've been reviewing lately.
Overview:
There's a lot to love about this ROM, especially if your a touch of a control freak and like to have things exactly how you want it. This ROM is about as close as you're gonna get to having your Droid completely the way you want it. There's very little wrong with UD, but that's not to say it's a perfect ROM. Just closer than most others.
