Root OTA notification WITH StopOTA.zip - BB0.4

Won't you just get the notification again until you're successfully updated? I AM running CMRecovery. I'm just very nervous about hitting "install now" and potentially wiping out all my root and ROM goodness here...

clockwork will block the update but it will only go away for a short period of time. A day or two max and the notification will be back

Hopefully, you have Root Explorer (and if you don't, I highly recommend it because it's so worth the couple of bucks). Here are the instructions to prevent to the FRG22D OTA update (which I was getting yesterday myself):

1. In Root Explorer, go to /system/
2. Tap Mount R/W at the top, then long-press on build.prop and scroll down to Open in Text Editor
3. Once the file is open as a text file, scroll down until you see the line that says: "ro.build.fingerprint=verizon/voles/sholes/sholes:2.2/FRG01B/45394:user/release-keys" and change it to read as follows:
ro.build.fingerprint=verizon/voles/sholes/sholes:2.2/FRG22D/50454:user/release-keys
4. Tap the back key and say "Yes" when it asks you to save (it will automatically back up the original file for you)
5. Tap Mount R/O at the top
6. Reboot

You will no longer get the OTA update notifications, because Verizon will believe you already have it.

That didn't work for me until I changed the line above it that says "description" to match, now there's no more update. Thanks!

Here you go guys. 99.999999% Pete's old FRG01B patch. I just fixed it to work for the FRG22D OTA.

Instructions:
Just like youve done a million times to your phone before...

Place update.zip on your sd root
Boot into recovery
Select "install update.zip"
Let it do its thing
Select Reboot when prompted
Congradulations, no more annoying update.

Understood if you dont trust a noob but this has been ran on over 200 droids so far after it was posted on another forum and nobody has mentioned any issues yet. Its currently on my phone as well. Just trying to do my part in demolishing the Apple empire. Enjoy guys.

Awhile back I ran Pete's StopOTA.zip file and it stopped Verizon's OTA notifications. Today I received another one that says:

This software update includes new enhancements to enable the download of Adobe Flash Player 10.1 via market, and multiple security improvements for your DROID by Motorola.

Should I rerun Pete's patch? Can I install update? Don't want to screw up and lose my root access you know? Thanks!

Of course I did. If the answer to my questions have been addressed in one of the previous posts then let me know which one it is. Look if you don't want to help me out then don't respond. You won't hurt my feelings trust me. Some of us aren't as knowledgable as others when it comes to rooting and understanding all of this stuff. I'm assuming based on your response that Pete's previous patch allowed our phones to reported it's s/w version as FRF84. Now it appears that Verizon has issued another OTA update to update those phones to FRG22D. If YOU were to have read my post one of my questions was "Can I install update?". Got an answer for that one?

sure do. All you had to do was READ, or do a search. In 10 seconds i did a search of "ota update" and got 4 threads that would have given you an answer. However, i'll give it to you here too. If you are rooted you can hit install update. Your phone will reboot but your recovery will block the update. Reboot to normal and the OTA will go away for a day maybe 2. Orrrr you can follow the directions give in the post below and install the file he attached and it goes away for good, or at least until they send a new OTA.

just for fun .... is this the answer you couldn't find in the thread that you read ...

SO I can hit "install later" indefinitely until Pete releases another patch?

If he is running ClockworkMod recovery, can The_Chief just let the installation proceed and ClockworkMod recovery will block it. That's what I did for FRG01B.
The installation fails and I booted back into BBV0.4

I saw the patch that Bartl3by created which will block the FRG22D OTA update. The question that I had was if I didn't install his patch what would happen to my phone if I installed the update. It was much smaller than the FRF84 OTA update so I wasn't sure what would happen if I installed it. Would I still retain root access but gain all of the enhancements to bring my OS up to FRG22D? Probably not but I wanted to find out before I decided what to do.

it was explained by 23453 different people in the post RIGHT above yours. if you install the patch, clockwork will deny it. you will then reboot your phone to notice the OTA notification isnt there anymore, but itll come back in a day or two. Do me and everyone else a favor, install my patch, and go on with your life.
