It's early September!!! Where is the Froyo OTA???

(The camera slowly pans in from behind what used to be a sane and well-adjusted man whom we shall call for now; 'firemcd' . One cannot help but notice over the sholder of his large frame that he is tapping away a reply on an apparent forum based website. Sick laughter slowly curls from his trembling lip as he exclaims "Tourettes" style; "BASTARDS! See, see Verizon! I AM NOT ALONE......he,he, huhhhhh." As we slowly pan around to the front of him we see an expresion on his face of both Bliss and Torment, with a pronounced involuntary facial twitch that starts at the lower lip and works its way upward to his furrowed brow. His head flies back with a howl of pain; or is it satisfaction? Surely, he is in agony waiting for something to be delivered only at the behest of a group of sadists wrapped as corporate sociopaths. What little joy he feels comes from knowing many others he knows and cares for are experiencing the same angst.....even if on levels deemed "understandable". What does the future hold for this bent and hurting individual? With his chin wearily resting on his breastbone, he checks for another update. In his "About Phone" screen his hopes hang on fading chance. Will he finally be one of the lucky? With a slow raspy whimper he watches as the little red swirl goes round and round on the screen. "Your Device is up to date. No update is necessary at this time." Howls of pain ensue......

Bwa-Ha-Ha-Haaaaa........

The camera fades away from him slowly as the screen blurs and a low moaning sound gives way to sick laughter.............)

I have no issues with eclair other than the fact that scrolling from one screen to the next lags a bit, the unlocker lags, and overall the speed isn't as smooth (like the iphone)...I would very much appreciate a more responsive and fancy menu transition.

However, the functionality of the phone is still amazing and I'm more than willing to wait for them to fix issues that froyo might have by analyzing what hasn't been working for the incredible and droid 2 (they're like guinea pigs).

If it means we get a more streamlined and ready to go froyo, I'm all for it. Wouldn't you guys be more ticked off if you got froyo and it didn't work like you were expecting it would? Just food for thought.

One would think that FroYo turned the Droid X from an unusable hunk of metal that caused bad breath, headaches and nausea to its users into a streamlined super-computer capable of calculating the last digit of Pi, the physics of the Big Bang, and turning its owners into smooth-talking geniuses, adored and envied by everyone around them.

Nice perspective...

The Android 2.2 for your DX is ready to go according to VZW. It is a huge task getting it pushed to all the phones that they are upgrading. They are doing the predecessors to the X first and not all at once so as to avoid the risk of crashing servers and networks. When they are done, the push will come for the X. When that happens it will be in an orderly fashion, in the order VZW has prescribed (no details given). Last I spoke with them they said sometime in the 3rd quarter which gives hope it will be done by September 30th. Remember this is a target date, not a deadline they are required to keep.

According to various sources the OTA Android 2.2 update for the Droid X:

A. Is going to happen late Summer.
B. Is going to occur early September.
C. Is ready to go but may not be released until as late as 9/30.
D. Was supposed to be released on 9/2 but was rejected by VZW.
E. Has already happened.
F. Will happen today. Or maybe 9/6 (on Labor Day?). Or perhaps 9/11, although I believe there are much more important things to think about on that date.

I think that the early September date is pretty well supported as having been Motorola's goal and that seems to make sense, so maybe some time next week. However, since both Motorola and VZW have to sign off on the release, an actual release date may not be known until it is about to happen.

The one thing I am pretty confident predicting is that as soon as the Froyo OTA update is released someone will start a "When is the Android 3.0 Gingerbread OTA coming?" thread.

LOL, there are already people on the motorola.com forums asking about gingerbread already.
