My phone all but died yesterday (see my other post) and was forced to do a factory reset. I went through and only re-installed apps that did not state about preventing the phone from sleeping. Most days I unplug my phone at 6am and its completely dead by 2pm. I unplugged today at 8am and at 2pm its at 75% to 80% (normally unplugging at 8 it would be at 30% at 2pm. I dont know if its the factory reset, or not installing apps that keep the phone from sleeping or what the deal is, but wow. My usage has been the same today if not more than normal cause of reinstalling my apps and re setting everything up from doing the reset. When I looked at my phone a few minutes ago to see if I have to do my normal afternoon recharge and it was still near full, I about SH#T myself.

I did a factory reset due to the lagginess after I updated. Then put everything I had on the phone before back on. That killed the battery fast :p. The next day, my battery lasted a LOT longer than it ever has! I am very happy! I also got rid of the Advanced Task Killer and noticed that the 3G is highlighted all the time. however, my awake time and on time are different. So the ATK was worthless anyways. My phone is not only running much smoother, but it is also getting better battery life. I am not bump charging anymore either. Just turning off my phone when I go to bed to charge it. Before I would turn it off, fully charge it over night, then unplug it for 15 secs, and plug it back in again. Yes, it drops fast from 100%, but not nearly as bad as before 2.2.
And im getting the OEM 1500Mah in soon!

You are a smart guy my friend. Both things you mentioned are affecting your phone, that is why battery life improved. Glad to hear that and hope more people find this helpful. That's what I did and I am very pleased.

I personally am beyond angry over this decreased battery life. I spent days tweaking my phone to get optimal battery. On 2.1 I could get a good day to a day and a half without charging. Today I receive froyo in the middle of the night and within an hour of unplugging my phone drops to 90%. Pre Froyo I would get a good couple of hours before it would drop down that much.
After the weekend I will most likely back up my apps and do a wipe of the device. There will not be any apps I am removing. I have the apps for a reason.

I have all my apps for a reason as well, but if getting rid of the ones that kill the battery means I dont have to charge 3 times per day as I had before, thats a sacrifice I'm willing to take. I am going to make it a personal rule of my own to never install another app that has the potential to cause the phone to drain the battery. I will be reading the warnings real closely from now on. I might also be looking into an extended battery bigger than the 1750. I still only get one day and I would like to go longer. At 40% now

Makes no difference in reality. It will only make a difference because you maybe removing battery hogging apps. If you install all the same apps again then there will be no difference.

Actually, most of the time it is just a glitch causing the problem. Uninstalling and reinstalling often fixes this.

So what apps will drain it that fast? It would be nice to know ahead of time what apps are battery hogs, and what aren't. If there is already a thread on this, someone point me in the right direction.

As I mentioned above, the vast majority of the time it isn't the app specifically, but a temporary glitch.

However, some noted offenders I have seen before:

Google Goggles ( Basically this is an app google made to show off the capabilities of the Android system. In a single app it uses I think every single feature. Internet, camera, accelerometer, magnetometer, gps...the works. So battery drain is expected. )

Brain Genius Deluxe. ( Haven't tested in a long time, but 30 mins of this could eat up hours of battery time. Not sure if they have fixed this, I think it activated several of the various sensors and was using them non-stop, which is an Android coding no-no. )

Moron Test. ( Only played with this a little, but in that time it seemed to use more juice than expected. I'd put it between where a normal app, for example Impossible Level Game, and the obscene Brain Genius Deluxe. )

If you do a search, I think theres a thread somewhere on apps that eat power.

All agreed. I did a factory reset and just getting my apps back and messing around with the phone almost nonstop drained it but even that took longer. EVERYTHING is now zippier and better with the reset.

Have no idea why this Froyo has been such a pain. Updates should be seamless and good to go, not have it's users doing so much post-update cleanup work. Pretty sloppy to put all this troubleshooting on us users.

They don't want to force a factory reset. Something as major of a change as Froyo is bound to have major issues with a current install, it was really fairly unavoidable. I do wish some big flashing warning would have at least popped up and told people "HEY! Do a factory reset as soon as you get a chance, or you will almost surely be having problems, mmkay?!"

Oh well, I think the word is getting out pretty well, so it is just a matter of working out the other issues here and there. The next biggest one seems to be the whole bad app thing coming back. From major hogs, to Task Killers, and stuck Awake. Making progress, but this is a slow and painful one since it is unique to each user:(

A factory reset helped me out a lot. I just purchased my DINC on Monday, and received the OTA update to Froyo on Tuesday. I didn't have any 3rd party apps installed before the OTA update. After the update, my phone would lag about 5 seconds when going from landscape to portrait. After a factory reset, the lag went away.
