Help is 2.2 out for the samsung moment yet?

Just wondering if the current 2.2 software is out for the samsung moment... if so how do I get it?

Too bad it's not near it's end life cheaper price. If they can still charge max MSRP for it, they should be supporting it up and beyound it's shelf life. No wonder so many people are ROOTING these things.

Sprint has already stated no 2.2 for the moment!

The Moment is absolutely EOL, but Sprint will charge as much as they think they can get for it. Development doesn't equal support. I'm sure that Sprint will honor warranties and offer tech support for the phone. If you're buying a Moment now (not recommended), you're buying a 2.1 device...period. The Moment ceased manufacture months ago (May or June?) and it's been replaced on the lower end by the Intercept and on the higher by the Epic4g.

Word to the wise, if you're expecting long term support and/or development, don't buy Samsung. Their inclination to dump devices early and move on is well documented. On that note, the HTC Hero, barely older than the Moment, isn't getting any more official updates either.

The development community for this phone is incredible and amazes me everyday in one way or another but sometimes I think people give it too much credit. At this point in time imo you should be looking towards the epic or the evo. The early adopters to the moment are passing time with the amazing updates from the dev community, but it's a game of catchup. The moment will never be an epic or an evo. You can only do so much with tweaks and a few lines of code.

i still have my g1 that tmobile decided to leave in the dust but even then, its still capable of running FROYO. im sure devs can make updated roms for this beautiful device. correct me if im over-reaching here but we just need a newer android phone with similar characteristics to the moment in order to get a dump of that phone and mod it to be capable of being a rom for our phone. (sorry if that was confusing)

honestly, i'm kind of disappointed by development for the moment.
seems every android phone out there has froyo in one form or another (and even many windows mobile phones!) including the hero and the older-than-dirt G1. Seems everyone just gave up on the moment.

now, don't get me wrong, i'm not saying that the devs are no good or that i could do better (trust me, i can't)... they've done some great things for us.

...but maybe it's just because i come from a long line of htc phones and my expectations were just way too high

Why? Because it's 4G? And it can do what that our moments can't do? I'm sure they can suck battery life as fast as the other phone. I'm sure it can run the apps I'm running now. And, if I REALLY want more apps to kill my battery, I can root it? 4g? Don't get me started. It's in how many markets? Is it in the ones Sprint said they would be in in the 2 years they were going to have it rolled out? 4G/Wimax is to Sprint's wireless what ION was to it's wireline division in 2000. 2 billion dollars down the drawn. All but killed the company. Buying Nextel didn't help much either. So... evo and epic can do what that my non-rooted moment can do? Then, is it worth the 250.00 w/contract and rebate for that feature? Marketing hopes you think so. Samsung hopes you think so too.

You really need to do some more research before you bad mouth the new gen phones. It's about a lot more than battery life and "who cares about" 4g. Do some reading and then come back.

Guess that's my problem. Been doing too much reading. As far as 4G goes. 4G is not a selling point and unless you live in one of the few markets that has it, well, marketing will sort you out on the way to the bank. I've been there from when it was first mentioned. Had my hands in it so it's not a selling point as far as the phone goes. I live in an area that was to get it in 2007 as a test bed but, the eqp got re-boxed back up and shipped out to another site. Now, my area won't see it for another 2 years. So lets see, I can say "that movie is good", but without any REAL selling points to back it up, it may not appeal to you and you waste your money. Having seen a moment with 2.2 on it, that live wall paper really makes me want to go out and root mine . Nope.. if 2.2 stops the locks ups, lag in dailing, stops killing my battery and must makes my phone work as a phone, then I'm sure 2.2 is nice. This is whats this is about, right? Not the EVO as it's just a phone running 2.2 that's the size of my wifes HP PDA without it's case. No disrespect mate, till I see some REAL WORLD need for 2.2 and the EPIC (just because it can run 2.2 doesn't mean it's worth the 250.00 after rebates and 2/yr contract).. I'm happy with my moment and all that it can do at this point.

biggest thing about FroYo is the JIT compiler... which you can get in AT LEAST 2 custom ROM's RIGHT NOW (Radioactive Froyo, Amstel 2.0) another big thing is Apps to SD which can also be done by apps on a moment.

only other thing i can think of is the built in task killer (which isnt that spectacular from what i am reading) what is it you want out of 2.2 that your not getting on your moment?

that said, i do see your side of things... but the moment has been a problem child since release and i think they more or less put up their hands and slowly backed away from it. BUT thanks to the developer community over at SDX they are keeping our phones as cutting edgem, if not more than official releases from sprint or samsung ever would.

I don't think Samsung has backed away from the Moment because it's a "problem" as much as it's their way to back away and abandon every device they make. Give 'em 6 months and the Galaxy s class will probably be cast off and forgotten too. Another reason I'm not hot to trot for the Epic.

Near the end of its life! Wtf I saw it was put out in 2005 why was it the only android phone at th sprint store when I bought it this year and it sucks as a phone in itself. I brought it back 3 times to get new ones they wouldn't let me change it to another phone. We should patition or email the heck out of them or something to do something for us. That shh is not cool at all and it infuriates me.

Just to answer the couple questions here:

What can it do that our moments cant?
1. Use wi-fi and then switch back to 3g without locking up the data connection
2. Be in use for an entire day without rebooting
3. Get a GPS signal to stay locked for more than 5 minutes (my problems with this have been intermittent)
4. Run 3D games. (not really important to me, but could be a cool feature)
5. Run JIT without rebooting several times a day
6. Have a slimmer design that would fit in my pocket more easily.
7. Hold a constant, strong cell signal...mine oscillates between full bars and 1 bar constantly.
8. Have a significantly bigger screen...easier typing, better multimedia viewing
9. Better screen
10. Better camera(s)
11. Pinch zoom and other multi-touch features

Also, on the battery: It's still pretty early, but the reports I've seen make it seem like the battery on the Epic is a huge improvement over the moment. The battery on this phone has never been a selling point. I'm happy to get 12 hours out of it, if I use it very, very sparingly. That's pathetic.

I'm sure there's more that I'm forgetting. Am I going to run out and spend my money on one right away? No. Would I rather have a faster phone with, from what I can tell so far, fewer bugs and more features? Yes. Would I ever recommend the moment to anyone? Hell no. I will be quite happy to finally get rid of this buggy piece of crap.

as far as battery.. i get over 24 hours with NO IM client on and get half that WITH an im client. could be software killing your battery.

You seem to be the exception. I'm on my second moment now, want me to lock up the data connection? I can do it in a couple minutes.

Haven't had a reason to use the GPS on the new one yet, we'll see.

I wasn't even running a JIT rom (or any aftermarket ROM for that matter), and it was rebooting several times a day, often in the middle of a call. Can you tell I was frustrated with it when I posted?

Cargo pants, actually. But, what I wear isn't the issue. You asked why someone would want to upgrade. A slimmer design would be a reason someone would.

I doubt it, I know several people around here with sprint, and none of them have the same issue. This is also likely one of the reasons the battery life is so piss poor, the antenna is weak sauce.

No, I want a bigger screen with a better battery. It's one of the reasons to upgrade.

It's not bad, especially for its time, there are better screens now, with better resolution.
