R.I.P. swype.....

:-(

I don't know why you'd post this in the LFY thread -- Swype works perfectly for me on LFY 1.6 (on all LFY versions, as a matter of fact).

If you signed up for the swype beta you just need to run the swype installer again. I have never been able to get swype to restore with titanium backup after changing roms but I am using right now on this rom.

Thanks. ...

I will uninstall and try again, but it wouldn't work the first time I did that. I will uninstall, reboot, then try to re install and see how that works.

Are you part of the current beta? If so, all you need to do is run the Swype Installer app and Swype will work like a charm. Like GirlLuvDroid said, Swype has worked perfectly for me on every version of LFY as well as other ROMs I've run.

I can pull the apk if you don't have it..

That's what I did. I should have been more specific i suppose. I used the link here, put it on my SD card, and chose the rom from the root of my SD card. I'm beginning to think something else is the problem, though, because I tried to install fourth wave and it did the same thing. So I think you can disregard my previous post until I figure out that it is for sure the rom, not my phone/rom manager.

Thanks for the offer! I am part of the beta group, and I had un installed and re installed, but it would not work. I uninstalled the installer apk, and swype apk, Rebooted the phone, then re installed, and its working fine now. I was worried..... I don't think I could survive w/o swype now!

For all who see this:

If you restore Swype using TiBu, then you may run into problems. However, just uninstalling the Swype app will give you problems - b/c Swype is an IME, and removing doesn't remove it from the system correctly, so if you use the installer to try to install it again, you'll run into an error message similar to "Swype is already installed. Please uninstall it first before continuing."

To remedy this, you only need to uninstall Swype (not the installer), then reboot the phone and finally, run the installer. I have heard of some limited success with folks just force closing the desktop, and one person said to first go into Manage Applications / use a task kill and kill the Swype service, but this method I am outlining works as long as the install is nor corrupted and cannot be removed.

I wasn't the one that did the rating, but I have installed 1.6 twice now and have had the market force close constantly both times. I am currently restoring back to 1.5.

No issues with the market FCing - when installing the ROM, did you wipe as suggested? Did you install the ROM and nothing else, or did you go ahead and apply themes and / or a kernel in the same cycle?

The music controls aren't on the volume rockers, they're on the lock screen itself.

When I tried to install LFY (using rom manager), i got a this screen:
installaborted.png

Should I try a method other than rom manager, or did I just do something wrong?

Hey bro, your post doesn't clarify.
Did you download LFYv1.6 via ROM manager?

-Or-

Did you download from this page, or the one at Droidforums.net?

I've had an issue once before with downloading ROMs
over 3G and encountered issues.

If you haven't already, download from the first page
LFYv1.6 and place it on the root of your SD card

(meaning connect via USB your Droid) and mount
so that you can drag and drop the newly downloaded file
from your computer to your Droid's root directory of your SD card.

Then unmount, go into ROM manager and
"install from SD card"

Be sure to wipe properly, then install.
Has worked for me every time.

How would you compare LFY 1.6 to UD8?

The install was pretty much the same. Both installed and setup very quickly. I used TiB to restore apps so can't compare how they both do with finding app based on account. Neither of the ROMs reboots into Clockwork Recovery, which i believe is more an issue with Clockwork. Real world usage they are very similar in felt speed and responsiveness. I used the Slayher 1100 kernel on LFY and Chevy's MedV on UD8. I did notice right off the bat that on interactive mode Slayher's Kernel on LFY was burning through battery much faster than even the MedV Chevy's Kernel on UD was. Got everything setup in SetCPU and then ran LFY through the Benchmark. UD8 scored 1453 and LFY1.6 scored 1451. Changed Kernel to Chevy's 1100MedV and Benchmark went to 1480, Now just gotta see how battery life holds up. Slayher's Kernel was going through 10% per hour.

Appearance wise both are very clean stock. I like the customization features in UD8 much more. The Rotary Unlock and availability of Red themes is a plus for me personally. My favorite theme in terms of style is still the Blueberry theme for LFY just wish it came in red (strawberry perhaps).

Functionality wise the ROMs might as well be identical. It's the little user tweaks and such that pushes me toward UD8.0 over LFY1.6.

As always this is just my .02 take it or leave it.

My battery life is much better than 1.5 was. What is your governor on setcpu on? I like interactive as it keeps my phone snappier but I have heard people say it drains the battery more than on demand.

I have been using interactive on every rom and i get best battery life out of Lithium Mod. I can go 12-14 hours and have the same battery loss i had in 3-4 with LFY. Boils down to different phones working different on the same rom.

Hello everyone,

I am fairly new to this forum and also new to Liquid ROMs. Currently I am running LFYv1.5 w/ Blueberry theme and it was very easy for me to install this using ROM Manager but I want to learn how to install these ROMs by downloading from the links posted by Liquid on the first post of this thread.

Would someone, anyone please point me in the direction of how to do this step by step?? I'm not asking for someone to tell me how (you can if you want) but mainly asking for direction on where I can read how to do this...PLEASE!!

I want to learn how to (not in this order) install the ROMs, then the different Kernels, then the Themes, then the etc...

I have looked at the link for instructions posted above the ROM and themes but where I get confused is at what point do I install the themes or install the Kernels...I hope i'm not asking to much but I just want to learn and I am trying to do this now so I can keep up with this thread post by post and contribute myself!

Thank you so much for anybody's assistance in advance!!

javaman...Thank you so much however, I'm still not sure of a few things so please bare with me for my inexperience!

When you say "once formatting is done" what are you referring to exactly with formatting?

I am really trying to follow the instructions posted with the ROM, Themes, etc thats at the beginning of this thread but when I rebooted into ClockworkMod Recovery it looked at bit different than SPRecovery which I have used before and right there in SPR it has asterisks that I can choose to wipe/delete any cache and data...ClockworkMod doesn't show it like this so I am getting confused there with wiping it clean via ClockworkMod...any advise?

I am really sorry for my ignorance but I am trying very hard to do this properly! I am very grateful to all of you for your assistance...honestly I am a bit embarrassed but I need to start somewhere

Also after I install the ROM where do I install the Themes and Kernels from?? Do I just paste those onto the root of my sd card just as I did the ROM itself???

Thanks again

Ok I figured it out after I got over the fear of messing up my device so much thanks to you javaman70!!! I installed the ROM, Theme, then Slayher 1250 Kernel and man does this thing FLY!!! AWESOME!!!

Heres a question that I have searched for and I cannot find the answer to so if this has been asked then I apologize...I had SPRecovery 99.3, was running an AdamZ ROM Smoked Glass v4.5 prior to switching over to ROM Manager and ClockworkMod now after flashing CwM over SPRecovery I assume SPR is gone??? I tried a few times to restore an old backup made with SPR using CwM and it failed each time! The restores worked prior to switching over to RM and CwM...

Could it be that I did a Nandroid Backup w/ SPR and not CwM?
Could it be that I originally did the backup while running Android 2.0.1 and now I have installed Android 2.2??

Anyone wanting to help with this would be nice...

I am really looking forward to trying lfy1.6. So much so that in my haste I forgot to move the ROM files from my PC desktop to my SD card before wiping everything in Clockwork. Doh!

I know I can just restore my backup and start over. No big deal. But I am curious if there is another way to do it? I tried connecting via USB to move the files, but that didn't work. TIA!
