My first PDA was a Palm M150 that I got 8 years ago. I used it until it broke, and then I took over my husband's handspring visor as he wasn't using it. I used that until it broke and then I was SOL for a while. I finally picked up an HP IPAQ but it sucked as a phone; I could not hear it ring to save my life. It finally quit holding a charge and I just didn't want to spend the money to get a new battery; I'd rather have a new device. But which one?
I'd always gotten the model on the way out to save money, and I'd never had a data contract because I do most of my work at home and we have wireless, etc., but I've always dreamed of the freedom this would give me.
I admit iPhone envy. But I've never been an Apple user. I don't like closed systems. I don't like the DRM stuff, and I HATE iTunes. I installed it once and it has not been invited back. So I waited. And waited. I was excited about the Pre, but unexcited about the reviews. And there is no coverage from Sprint where I live, so that wasn't going to happen unless the Pre got another carrier. So that brings us to present day...when, while watching TV, I saw THE commercial: YouTube - iDon't, Droid Does from Verizon.
OMG. What was that? I was hooked. Long story short, I have a big birthday coming up, and I decided to finally go for it: two days after its release I ordered my very own, brand new, cutting edge, totally connected Droid. I paid $99 through Wirefly (thanks Fatwallet!); and I've been really happy. Really. Happy.
The contract was a big commitment for me as I've used pay per minute for years. No contract for me! I just didn't use my phone much. But, I finally found out this year that I have ADD. I need to be connected, and that keeps me home more often than I like. And, I've got this crazy idea that the Droid can be a tremendous help keeping things straight. So far...so good.
Anyway, I look forward to learning more about the Android OS and stuff I can do with my new brain. I mean, Droid.
