Help Please help, troubleshoot after 1.6 update

I recently updated my galaxy to android 1.6 and now when I turn it on, it gives me a code entry screen with two choices: "unlock" or "dismiss" I don't know what to type in (it is not sim card related) But I can't use my phone if I choose dismiss.

Can anyone tell me what this is?

Sounds like a simlock.

That happens when you put Simcard from another provider on your Galaxy. You can use the Galaxy regardless of that but you can't phone nor send messages to no one (also internet thru your provider,...).
Decode the phone via some service office to get the problem solved for good. And yes after decoding you can put in the phone Sim from all providers.

Did you buy your phone from your provider or some other way?
