Hey guys. I'm a new member but I'm on this forum all the time. So here's the deal: I did the update.zip to get froyo and I'm convinced there's a lot of bugs (battery usage, constant rooting, etc) and I would like to just receive Verizons ota. how can I do that? Would I need to go back to 2.1 first? I'm a newbie so explain it well please.

Update.zip and the OTA are the same thing. All the update.zip is is the file that Verizon pushes out.

I did the zip too - give it a few days for your battery life to get better.

Also, there is no issue with "constant rooting." Read up on some other threads to find out what rooting actually is - I don't think you understand. I'll edit in a sec with some links.

Edit: Rooting - is it for me? Some Q&A | Android Central

I meant constant REBOOTING. Damn autocorrect lol. So would i have had the.same problems with the ota? And why will the battery get better in a few days?

I did the zip and I didn't wipe beforehand. SHould I have? I did do a full restore/hard reset after installing.

I used the zip and I don't have any issues... My battery seems slightly shorter but I still get a full day out of it easily. There have been a lot of people who got the OTA that have the same issues you describe. I think one of the other apps on your phone may be causing the issue due to some incompatibility with froyo. I would eliminate most apps and see if it fixes. If it does slowly add back until you find the culprit.

No I didnt wipe. Should I now? I have so much stuff on my phone. Its gonna suck to lose it all.

Yes, you need to do a factory reset. I know it sucks to have to set everything back up, but that's what happens when you try to install one OS on top of another.

Yes, you will have the same problem. What you installed on your own IS the official OTA. Someone just extracted it and put it out there for all the impatient people to load up ;)

The battery will improve because your battery calibration settings were removed when you did the update. So it needs to recalibrate now. That takes 3-4 days on average.
