Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum and was hoping someone might know if the droid 2 has gorilla glass or not. I've searched everywhere and can't find any info on the droid 2's screen material. I know the X and original droid have gorilla glass and was hoping the 2 would as well especially since I just bought one. I have a screen protector on it that I'm not particularly fond of and would take it off if it has gorilla glass. Thanks in advance for any input on this topic. DROID!

Gorilla glass = yes, D1 and D2 both have it.

Stuff is amazing - I dropped my D1 probably 10 times, from heights ranging from a couple feet to five feet, on concrete and asphalt. Landed face down the majority of the time (murphy's law). Also kept it in my pocket w/keys, coins, etc., w/out any issues.

Body of my D1 has a bunch of scratches and small dings. As for the screen - not a single scratch or mar. Droid is the only phone I've not used a screen protector on and I never will - for me it's been proven totally unnecessary.

Thanks everyone for your quick replies. I'm very pleased to know that it does have gorilla glass. My only question is why doesn't Motorola make this feature more well known? Not one of the spec sheets I found had it listed. If I were Motorola, I would be very clear that their Droid line features such a kickass screen material. Just sayin...

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say scratch proof. I took a key to mine today and thought I damaged internal parts I rubbed it so hard. Not even a smudge.

Well, I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade, so to speak, but my Droid 2 is very difinitely NOT "scratch proof". I had machined a small steel part in the shop today and threw in my coat pocket. Coupe of hours later, my phone ended up in there too, and then I proceeded to walk around and do my daily business all afternoon. The sharp edges of the freshly machined, hardened steel did a REALLY ugly number on my sreen! If Droid 2 has "Gorilla Glass", then I guess I must have used used "Kong Steel" on that part.

While I think Gorilla Glass is great, I think that a screen protector is still a prudent investment, unless you actually enjoy user-inflicted imperfections on the screen. I have an ZAGG InvisibleShield (which needs replacing because it was damaged by the son’s teeth after he fell on the phone). While I prefer not having protector, I don’t want any scratches on the screen, period.

If you watch video you will see that the screen can be scratched and broken. Admittedly it takes quite a beating, but you can quite clearly see scratches on the screen prior to the drop-tests.
