Questions about purchasing the Incredible

I've decided that I'm going to get the Incredible, but I'm confused as to where to buy the phone.

I'd be the most confident in buying the phone directly from a Verizon store, but unless I get the phone online (which I'd rather not do) the phone costs an extra $100. I've heard about stores like Best Buy who subtract rebates/discounts from their in store price.

so here are my 2 main questions:
- will I be able to pay $200 for the phone AT the Verizon store (without having to mess with rebates)
- is buying a phone at Best Buy similar as buying it at a Verizon store.

also can they do account changes at best buy, I'm going to need to add a data plan to my line.

thanks guys!

The special $200 price is with rebate. So wherever you go, it's going to be $300 and then you have to submit a mail in rebate and you'll receive a $100 visa gift card a few weeks later. If you don't open a new 2 year contract you have to buy the phone full price which is $550.
Not true, anywhere BUT verizon the rebate is instant. At verizon store your paying at least 300 then mailing in your rebate.
If you must buy it in person i would suggest walmart, not sure if you can add a line there though
Any reason why you don't want to buy it online? Just sayin cuz Amazon has the phone for $69.99 so you could save over $100!

^^best deal

I believe BB can do account changes.

If your heart is set on getting through Verizon directly then you have two options. Get it in the store and you have to mail in your rebate. Get it on Verizon.com and the rebate is instant.

Best Buy is an authorized Verizon dealer and they can make account changes. Their rebate is also instant.

Amazon is the cheapest that I have seen. Right now it's 69.99 with a new service plan.

No matter where you get the phone, it honestly doesn't matter if they can do account changes. Just find which is cheapest. If they can not upgrade the service plan themselves then you just call Verizon when you go to activate the phone and they do it then. That's actually what I had to do because when I ordered my phone it was backordered and I didn't want to add the $30 plan until I had a phone to actually use it with =)

Only drawback to buying a phone through Amazon (or any other authorized reseller) is if you end up terminating your contract in the first 6 months. There is a seperate $250 early termination fee that you have to pay to Amazon, on top of the $350 early termination fee you pay to Verizon. If you terminate your service before 180 days (6 months), then you have to pay a $250 fee to Amazon, a $350 fee to Verizon, for a total of $600.

Make sure you read the fine print whenever purchasing a phone from a reseller. While most are pretty standard, I've seen some really crappy terms. I had a friend who got hit for a $250 fee just for lowering his monthly minutes. The fine print in his contract did state that they would hit you with a fee if you lowered your monthly service plan within the first 12 months. He ended up getting it waived, but it was still some serious BS.

If I recall correctly from a few years ago the 250 termination from Amazon also applied if changed your contract to use another phone (say you broke or lost the Incredible), you may want to ask a CSR about that.

I've purchased 6 phones under various contracts (T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon) through Amazon in the past 5 years and never had a single problem with any of them.

The part about changing your plan during the first 6 months is true, they have a separate $250 fee independent of the carrier if you terminate or alter your plan.

I've gotten some unbelievable deals on phones that way and the carriers have never treated me any different when calling for support than any other customer.

You can get around the Mail In Rebate in store if you find a rep willing to do so. What we did with mine was I billed the extra $100.00 to my account and sent in the rebate, by the time I paid my next bill I had my rebate card and used that to pay on the bill. So if you are dead set on getting it in store, this is a way to do it but nothing wrong with Best Buy or Amazon you'll come out just as good if not better with them. My wife got her Inc through a Best Buy store and liked there customer service better than our local Verizon store. She didn't feel near as pressured.
