Eris replacement

I am on my 4th Eris and will soon be my 5th. I took my last one into the verizon store and they confirmed it was a hardware issue and not something I was doing. Well this one, which I have had less than a week, started having extreme lagging (2-3+ minutes) then it would force close. So, today I called Verizon and they were very helpful and put me through to HTC tech support, which I have never had to deal with before. Well while trying to trouble shoot, the phone lagged and forced closed so he told me to do a hard reset. Well after the hard reset it is freezing on the black HTC screen and he told me there is nothing else he can do but send out another phone.

He advised me to call HTC warranty service center. He said they would probably mail out a phone Tuesday morning and have it here by Wednesday or Thursday. I'm a little upset because this is my work phone and only line (self employed) and I'm paying a lot per month for 4 days of service I'm not getting. Now I'm not asking for a free handout, all I'm asking is for a phone, that is comparable, that works - not my 5th Eris (for god sakes it's my 5th phone in 6 months and it's a hassle to re download everything and log into all my accounts again etc.)

So, my question is should I try going through Verizon to get a replacement or through HTC? Has anyone gone through HTC's warranty department and have any experience that they can share? Thank you for any help you can give me!

I'm having similar issues with my Eris, I hate it. I'm on my 3rd, having done the system reset on everyone I've had. I've told verizon that I just want a different phone because this one is obviously junk. They used to have a policy that if you went through 3 of the same model they would get you a different model, but according to the tech support guy dumb Oprah announced that on her show so now they don't do that. They basically said I can buy a different phone or I'm screwed. So I'm now officially on a mission to get as many people as possible to call and complain and get replacement phones (even just the same dumb phone), in hopes that they will finally acknowledge they screwed up the phone with the update and need to do something about it. So I say call verizon and see if you can get anywhere, and spread the word to everyone else you know who hates their Eris. I'm hoping they will choose to spend the money to get new phones instead of paying for all the tech support calls and replacing an Eris with an Eris every couple of days, and risking losing lots of customers over their poor customer service.

I called Verizon tech support again and they said they could replace the Eris with another Eris, a Motorola Devour (which according to him is a great, comparable phone with no issues at all) at a slight upgrade cost or buy a new phone for the full retail price. I chose to go with another Eris and just hope it works because this is getting really ridiculous.

I've got two rooted Eris's, and they don't have that issue. My wife started out with the Devour and it was trouble from day one. After having three replacement phones sent out, I got Verizon to send me an Eris instead. You just have to talk to them nicely, but firm. If you are having the same issues with the device over and over, they will switch the device for you. Ask for a supervisor. If you dont get the answer you are looking for ask for another supervisor. Dont take no for an answer and always call Verizon directly. I usually dial 611 from a Verizon phone. Good luck!!

Success!!! I called Verizon again today and my new Droid Incredible will be here on thursday! I honestly think I just got lucky with the techs I talked to, but the supervisor (the first tech doesn't have the authority to give me a new phone) told me that she has had tons of calls about Eris issues and that HTC says only to replace it with another Eris, but since they make the Incredible she said she'll send me one of those. Keep calling and bugging them, the supervisor said she thinks it's more cost effective for Verizon to just give me a different phone than keep paying for a replacement every few days and tech support all the time, maybe try playing that card? Good luck!

and never go to the store, if rep one doesnt work, try 2, then 3, then 4, until you get a new phone. we pay a lot for these things. they should at least make phone calls.... that was my argument. htc inc. is the dodson of the eris tho, had it two months, gone through 2 phone already 3rd coming tmw....

Oh, and about HTC, the supervisor I talked to at Verizon said HTC is NOT owning up to the issues with the Eris, so I say stick with trying to deal with Verizon.

That's good to know.

Glad to hear you got satisfaction from them; it goes to show you that you have to persist.

What a shame that the manufacturer won't back up their device. At least the distributor is (finally) taking care of you.

Was on my 2nd replacement Eris. Touchscreen went unresponsive on left corner. Sent in an email to Verizon through their website. Got a phone call this morning and rep said it would be replaced with another like-new certified Incredible. I recieved another call an hour later saying there were no replacement back covers and so she'd just send me new Incredible alltogether.

How can I go about talking to Verizon to best ensure my chances of getting a replacement phone that is NOT an eris?

I've had every problem from the forums (with the exception of my screen having dead spots)

my battery life sucks, my phone lags hardcore, my screen scrolls to the left constantly (plugged in or not), my call screen messes up, i can't even MAKE calls sometimes (need to restart phone), I haven't been able to receive picture messages in over 3 months, everything force closes a LOT, and the phone is just very very slow.

I can't even text anymore due to the scrolling issue. I have task killer so I don't know why my battery sucks so hard. I am going to call verizon tomorrow, and I would rather not get a refurbished eris just to have to send it back 3 times like I've read over and over.

advice? would mentioning that apparently everyone on the internet has the same problems through 3+ phones help?

I appreciate any help I can get from you guys,
thanks everyone!

I think its half the luck of who you talk to, the supervisor I talked to said she knows about the issue and she does what she can to help people. My suggestion is telling them that it will be more cost effective to just get you a different phone rather than paying for all the tech support and sending you 3+ replacement Erises before they send you a different one. Talk to a supervisor because only they can get you into a different phone. When I finally got a different phone I just said, look, I don't want you to try to troubleshoot my phone, been there done that, you won't convince me there aren't problems with the Eris, I've been through all of this multiple times, all I want is a different phone, can you please help me? Good luck!

this is my first time getting a eris replacement. I must say i was better off using my original eris where the scroll down trackball wouldn't work. The replacement keeps scrolling left for no reason. And HTC sense always force close and dialer. The lag time is just ridiculous. I am calling verizon in the morning.

just got off the phone with VZW. They are sending me another replacement phone. whoopie. and they are said they are going to overnight it for my convenience

If this 2nd replacement phone i am getting doesn't perform. I am not going to be VERY UN-happy. What irritates me is that i can't even make a phone call. It is a cell phone first not a computer. I thought it was called a SMARTPHONE not a LAGPHONE.

Question though, i pay the extra 7 dollar asurion insurance. Don't i deserve a new phone. Should i claim it.

Asurion is insurance in case you lose or destroy your phone. It's a separate company, not Verizon. And it in no way assures your of getting a NEW phone, only a replacement.

You've probably read it before, but I'll say it again just for fun - rooting and installing a decent ROM (plenty to choose from) will get rid of the dialer lag. That's THE reason that I rooted my phone, and it's certainly made a believer out of me.

I took my eris to Verizon today, I too have the scrolling issue along with many other problems. Immediately without any testing he did a hard reset. I rolled my eyes.He gave it back and said its fixed. I told him put it on the charger, he plugged it in and it scrolled all the way left. His response was he held up the plug on the charger and said this is a magnet so its going to have that affect. its technology its not perfect. Bascially he told me just deal with it. I called customer service and told them. He said he will get a replacment sent out. I asked him if its going to be the same phone and he said yes due to our policy we have to replace it with the same model. I told him look I'm already on my 3rd and the phone has been nothing but problems, I get into a 2 year contract with something that isn't even lasting me 6 months, if I have to spend 500+ to get a phone that works i might as well cancel my service and go with a company that has better customer support. all he said was if you have anymore problems with the replacment just let us and we will fix it. This has been nothing but a run around, clearly these phones have major issues and replacing it with the same model again and again is not solving the problems. what I think is that they are just pushing them along until the warranty runs out to make a profit off people paying full price to replace their phone. if I cant text, struggle to make and recieve calls, spend all my time resetting and setting it back up again, for $134 a month they need to supply me with a phone that actually works and not half assed like this Eris has been. if i had the money I would go back to att. I left them for better service, im defiantly not getting that with Verizon right now

When I had an Eris. I had problems with it. Verizon acredited me $199 for the phone, this was about 4 months ago. So I got $199 towards a new phone, got to keep and sell my old eris ($150) and I got my Incredible for free cos of the $199 credit I opened anew two year and that covered it. Well the CSRep never told me the Incredible was out of stock at the time, and I had sold my Eris that day waitinf for my Inc. Came to find out the Inc was backordered and wouldnt be here for weeks, so I called verizon back and explained what happened. they sent me out a refurb Eris and a battery to USE until the Inc was here. pretty sick.
