Why all the hype about Dolphin Browser (HD)?

I have been using Opera Mini 5 for quite a while now. It seems to load pages several times faster than some of the more popular browsers, such as Dolphin. Why doesn't Opera Mini 5 get some love? Could it just have something to do with the cache? Maybe the more and more I go into the website, the faster it should load?

i used dolphin for a while,
its nice and has tabs and nice themes,
but i moved back to the stock browser and cant complain,
its just as fast on my phone, i used to use opera when i had a blackberry,
but i dont like it much for the eris

I tried Xscope, and it took a particular web page (rcgroups.com) about 40 seconds to load. It takes roughly 10 seconds to load on Opera Mini 5. As one review said, it looks like Opera is still the fastest. :-/

I'd love to use Opera, but I really like having pinch-to-zoom. So I just use the stock browser.

Its obviously going to be the fastest, no contest. All the web content is rendered and compressed from Opera's servers. Any other browser renders it directly on the phone.

I still use the stock browser because its much more flexible than Opera though. It was great on my Nokia, so I wouldn't see why that would be any different now.

I don't know, having the fantastic ability to switch between a mobilizer/opera turbo/full web is pretty nice. stock browser doesn't have that. I won't even touch the web without instapaper or opera turbo, i've no patience for that.

So far I've had the stock (obviously), Dolphin (haven't tried HD yet), Skyfire, Opera, and xScope.
Stock - is, well, it's stock. Nothing special but gt's the job done if that's all you're looking for.
Dolphin - was fine but I'm not into the use of all the gestures when other methods work faster for me for browsing. You don't have to use the gestures of course but it just didn't solve all my browsing needs.
Skyfire - made some sites available that use flash that other browsers just couldn't do. But I also found it buggy, a resource hog, and had a fairly large footprint.
Opera - fast indeed but I'd noticed that it wasn't able to properly operate some websites. Touch a hyperlink to select it and the whole screen highlighted or a link I wasn't trying to was selected.
xScope - worked the best for me so far. Fast, maybe not the fastest but fast enough. Has tabbed browsing. Can select whether I want a website to display as either Android or iPhone mobile platforms, or as seen on a regular desktop. And it's a fairly light file.

In the end you're best bet is to try them all to find which best suits your needs. YMMV.

Opera is beta, doesn't have tabs, doesn't have the ability to set user agent. Dolphin HD is the opposite. It's not the greatest browser ever, but it is good and solid.

Opera is cool because it proxies and compresses all traffic. It's so fast! But it's too quirky/buggy for me right now so I only use it when I need to access a page that isn't working in the other browsers.

Stock browser would be awesome but no tabs and no persistent user agent setting.

Skyfire is dead to me now. Uninstalled. They monitor your connection (per their terms of service) and their hacked up Flash video rendering is now obsolete thanks to Adobe. It never worked well anyway.

Dolphin is just a quirky old Dolphin HD for old phones.

Steel is just old and lacks features.

xScope is #2 behind Dolphin HD in my book. It's the little things that bother me, like how it doesn't have http:// in the address bar, how you can't edit bookmarks, how it generally doesn't handle loading more than one tab at a time well.

I've seen a couple other browsers in the market lately and I won't even list them here because they are so lousy that you shouldn't try them.

wait what? every version of opera I've ever used has had tabs. in fact their tabs implementation in android is lightyears more responsive than the stock browser.

thats pretty much the original feature of opera was tabs. just look at the screenshots.......

I have had a lot of website issues with opera, *BUT* these were entirely due to their implementation of opera turbo (its basically just another mobilizer). it performs identical to any other with this feature turned off in options.

I picked a browser based on it's ability to actually be able to exit the application and clear the cache upon exiting. Only Dolphin and Xscope have the ability to exit the program. The rest stay running in the background unless you have a task killer program installed.

Dolphin is slow and laggy on my eris compared to Xscope though.

A bit more functionality like Javascript and Flash Lite, its Webkit based so most websites render properly (some sites don't work with Opera properly for some reason), and you can zoom at any level, instead of just overview or zoomed.

But if all you need is speed, Opera doesn't disappoint.

You're right, I suppose. I just think that Opera's implementation isn't as fluid as Dolphin/xScope...somehow. I have to admit, I haven't played with it much.
