Long story short.. I'm tired of people holding one product in the light as the be all end all product and pointing out the flaws of another one with smug superiority.

I would honestly think we have reached a point in time where customers would realize that products are not universally perfect.

Now days, there are glaring problems with a lot of products shipped. We do not live in the days of "works 100% out the box anymore"..

What bugs me the most about this is how instead of acknowledging that products get shipped with problems.. People choose to sit there and indulge in total fanboyism and discuss which flaws are "worst" in other products while totally denying their own inherent flaws.

I am not limiting this to any particular instance.. but, a few things come up.

360 vs PS3
Pc VS Mac
Android vs iPhone

The list goes on.. but, I've lately begun to wonder why people feel such rabid obsessions.

Even I can admit I've developed certain strong dislikes of various things.. however, it is more due to rabid fanboyism than the product itself in most cases..

I agree with the original post.

People usually believe that they bought the best product. Sometimes it's probably because they don't want to admit that they could have made a better choice, or that their friend has a better product. Also people often think that their stuff, their opinion and their ideas are the best. This applies to me too and I'm aware of it. Most people aren't though.

I would like to delve a little deeper into this.

I think lack of research bites a lot of people in the but too... Anything I consider a "serious" purchase now days I do quite an extensive amount of research on..

Rather than finding out what the pro/cons are of different devices.. it is easier to just *assume* the one you have is the universal best.

Could be a fundamental lack of education is the problem here.

@ Rotary

Are you within your 30 days to exchange? :( I would take that back in a heartbeat if possible.. Most places are pretty good about exchanging something of that nature.

I also agree!

I call it the Apple Syndrome. People who buy Apple products, more specifically those people who buy everything and anything Apple and wait in lines for something, will argue to the death that an Apple device's flaw is a "feature". Go to any pro-Apple site or any site about computers and they will defend Apple to the death. The excuses and reasons they come up with are hilarious and it borders on being ******ed.

This is starting to flow over to other brands that people try to make into cults. Droids is a cult to some people. I bet there are some Droid owners that used to own iPhones.

In the end these people have something in common. They are stupid, uninformed consumers who are happy to blow their money on insufficient products.

I have an Incredible and I love it. But I will admit the reception and battery life sucks.

I would appreciate it if you didn't turn this into a bash apple thread :/

To be honest I had a lot more problems with 360 fan boys than apple ones initially..

Luckily the console pissing contest has died down a lot (as far as I'm aware).. But, man.. it was annoying for a while.. in the comments of everything ps3 related "IT SUCKS!"..

I do acknowledge apple has been bad.. but, it is dying down some now..

Plus even I must admit the iphone 4 is a major step up in apple's ball game..

Although I would prefer an android because I love the extra widgets I can throw around on the android devices.

With that said apple's popularity and diversification of the pc market may end up being annoying.

I don't really want in a year or two.. for pc vs mac to be another major issue of "what should I go with.. since one has this exclusive... the one has this exclusive"...

Plus I can't build a mac.. so if they ever did get any cool exclusives in terms of software I would actually want to use.. I'm screwed... I can build a pc... can't build a mac.

I also don't want this to turn into an iPhone thread, but I've been on some iPhone-centric forums, and I've honestly noticed a lot more diehard fanboyism here than there. I agree with the OP, people need to stop thinking whatever they like, they bought, they use, is the be all end all of that respective product and everyone else's suck.

You've obviously never visited the Eris, Desire, Hero, etc.. forums.

Well, I think it is much more complicated than we think.

First of all we have to think about why someone buys something - they do research - they choose what is the best for them, not for me, not for you, for them. Why is it the best for them? Because taking into consideration all the advantages and disadvantages of the given product they decided it was the best - other products have advantages and disadvantages too, but for this specific person the disadvantages of the product they buy are not as much painful as disadvantages of other products they took into account.

A simple simulation:

Mr X wants to buy a phone and sees a Droid X, DINC, Droid 2, Evo 4G and an iPhone 4 on the shelf.

Mr X thinks about what he needs.

1. I type a lot, so a good keyboard would be nice.
2. I carry the phone in my pocket, so size matters.
3. I want a big screen.
And so on and so forth.

He takes each phone into consideration, its faults and good sides and eventually after some time decides to get one of those phones. Why? Because whatever he chooses, has the features he wants, there are drawbacks he can live with and believes that all the other phones will not do things better than his choice (things he wants to do), will have more flaws that he cannot live with.

The result of this process is that he chooses something that is THE BEST. The best for him and there is no one who can make him think otherwise.

Because for what Mr X wants, his choice is the best. The end. Neither Mr Snow_Fox, nor anyone else, knows better than Mr X.

So now Mr X comes to Android Forums and discusses some stuff with our members - he really believes that what he chose is the best and thus he will keep saying that.

Every member here is a Mr X or Mr Y (lots of Mrs., Misses, Mses, ladies too). Some of them are more attached to their devices and some less.

That is how it looks from my perspective. I honestly believe, that my Moto Milestone is currently the best phone on the market (for me only and my needs), but of course I am not trying to impose that opinion on anyone else, because I realize everyone has their own needs.

There are some people here and in every forum though, that like to think that there is no one with needs different from theirs and thus try to impose their opinions onto others.

There is nothing we can do about people's character's/ egos and unless they decide to change there is nothing that can be done and this post will not help either.

Just my 2c about how pointless it is to impose your opinion onto anyone else. And this also applies to those starting threads like these, they want to make everyone think like themselves - which is not possible and would be boring as hell.

well you can build a mac because they use the same hardware now. all you have to do is load in OSX. i have mac and windows on one pc, both run good
