I think my battery just died on me

I noticed battery life was getting worse and worse... well today at work my battery went from roughly 80% to completely empty just sitting idly in my holster. It's within 30 days of my purchase, maybe I'll be lucky enough to get a free replacement from VZW...

I'm pretty sure I had BT / WiFi / GPS all turned off, screen brightness below 0%, and didn't have any constantly polling / streaming apps in the background...

Anyone else having battery issues?

I have had my phone since Nov. 6th and the battery is doing very well. (Knock on wood!) I charge it probably about every 36 hours. I charged it this morning so I shouldn't have to charge again until tomorrow evening. If I use the camera a lot then it shortens the time. I also power off the phone every night so that's 8 hours or so when it isn't using the battery at all.

Is your holster a BB holster or something with magnets? It could be putting the phone in Dock mode in your pocket (certain magnet combinations will make it think it's in a car dock etc) and that could be killing your battery fast perhaps? Just a theory...other than that I've got nothin :)

FWIW my battery is pretty decent. I left GPS on all day yesterday at work, and with regular to heavy use, it lasted from when I got up until close to bedtime.

Have you been using the factory charger or some other micro USB charger? I've been holding off on using anything else beacuse I suspect that Moto chose the charger they did for a reason. While other will work, I wouldn't be surprised if the increase/decrease in amps ( or whatever) could damage the battery's ability to hold a charge.

I may be wrong though

Factory charger overnight, and VZW generic car charger every day since my battery is usually dead by 8:00 PM (I work from 3 PM til 11:30 PM, so this is definitely no bueno)

Don't know how you're going 36 hours at a time... I don't think mine could go 12, and that's with the phone just sitting there.

I charged the phone yesterday morning and took it off the charger at 7 a.m. It was at 100%. I did a lot of email checking, some market stuff, a little browsing, one phone call and a few text messages. I powered it off at 9:30 p.m. last night and back on at 7 a.m. this morning. I just looked (at 8:40 a.m.) and it is at 50%.

As stated, if you have a holster with a magnet, the phone is probably in "dock mode" and the screen is draining the charge.

If you are in an area where you have weak signal (1 bar or less), then the battery will drain much faster. I was in an area where I had 0 - 1 bar (mostly 0) of signal, and from full charge, the battery dropped to 20% in just over 3 hours. This from a battery that's good for 24 hours of "my normal use".

WHAT! My god, I take my phone off its charger at 7:30, go to work and don't touch the phone, listen to mp3's at the gym, and it's dead by 8pm...

My phone is a 43/09, does that make a difference?

Mine is a 39/09 but I really don't know if that makes a difference or not. I've heard that 39/09 is the worst and people have taken it back to exchange it for a more recent model and I've heard that 39/09 is great! So I'm guessing it doesn't make a difference.

I will say that the battery seems better than it did when I first got the phone. I haven't used it to play music at all so it's possible that music is a battery killer. I have also heard that being in an area with a poor signal will drain the battery quickly so if the signal inside the gym is bad, that could be the difference in battery life between our two phones.

i agree with your battery sentiments, barbara. mine's much better now than originally. also i have very strong coverage in my area (philly) so that probably helps. but i can go an entire 12 hour work day with regular to heavy use and not have to charge (though it can get close depending how heavy the "heavy use" is)

also i have a 39/09 and i've had no issues so far, extremely happy in fact!

I've been having crazy battery issues. My Droid is rooted running sholes 2.0.3 (old, I know but gave me the least issues) with a metamorphed theme (AdamZ smoked glass with blue). I do not use a case of any kind. Nothing syncs faster than every 3 hours, my coverage is good, I do not have background apps running, I shut off GPS, wifi, etc, and have the screen on the lowest brightness, I web browse for about an hour per day, talk maybe an hour, and text for about 30 minutes per day. That is less than 3 hours of total use.

My phone currently dies in about 5 hours from the time I take it off of the charger if I use it as described above. It will last longer if I use it as a pocket weight but whats the point in that?

Is anyone else having an extreme battery issue? Does anyone have any advice? I was thinking about going back to the Verizon store, purchasing another battery, and running it through the optimal charge cycles to optimize it. Could this solve the problem?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Needsdecaf,

I will try two full discharges. Unfortunately I think I could do two full discharges before the day is over lol. Thanks for the tip!

Concerning battery calibration, I have installed a battery widget called "battery left beta" which is a really cool widget that gives you battery left as an exact percentage (exp. 76%) and the approximate time left until it is dead. It took a day or two for it to calibrate to my battery but I just realized that it was about the same time my battery charge began its significant drop (it used to last 10 hours with use, now only 5). Is it possible that Battery Left Beta has led to greater battery drain?
