Accessories New HTC car dock charging issues??

So, I just got the new HTC docking station at the Sprint store (actually this is the 2nd one I got. First one was broken. It wouldn't click/lock)

Anyway, I love the dock, but yesterday I took a long drive to pick my son up at college. I also bought the Sprint Mini USB car adapter which I plugged into the docking station. After about an hour and a half, I noticed the charge lite wasn't orange or green. It was blinking? I thought perhaps I didn't put it securely in the cradle. I took it out and put it back in. again after about an hour or so, the light was blinking. I noticed the Evo was pretty hot. I switch my air vents to upper dash board and the next several hours the light stayed orange, but the problem is it never charged. In fact, it was almost dead once I got home and took it out of the docking station? I did have the brightness on high and I did have the Nav going.

Anyone experience charging issues with this docking station?

Thanks, and I love the FORUM!!!!

I would recommend a 1000 mA (1 amp) charger. I use this one from Scosche and it works great:

iPad, iPhone & iPod Accessories Power powerPLUG - Low-Profile USB Car Charger

Sometimes when using the GPS on very hot, sunny days the EVO will stop charging until it cools down. It's meant to protect the phone from overheating.

I concur with this. It's not a charger issue, it's a safety mechanism on the phone when the phone gets hot. This past weekend in L.A., it was quite hot and I have my docking station on the dashboard. Once the dock got too hot, it went into this same "safety" mode when the phone was plugged in and would not charge.

I'm using the official HTC charger, so there's no reason it would be the charger IMO.

Great! Thanks guys. So I am going to call Sprint and ask them what the ma is on their charger. What is the ma output on the HTC charger? Does Sprint carry that one?

The AC HTC charger puts out 1000mA, or 1A. I use a car charger that puts out 800mA, and it charged just fine. Anything above 500mA should be fine, although a 500mA charger may not charge the phone, just keep up with the usage.
