A good time to upgrade?

Much too far from the waves
Hey again guys!

Ok so after messing around with both the X and Incredible and literally WAY too much time spent researching, Ive pretty much made my decision with the Incredible. But now it has me thinking again. Is it really a good time to upgrade? I feel like the Incredible is starting to phase out a little (Or thats the feeling I get from some people) and I wonder if maybe I should just wait for the next HTC phone, or if this is the perfect time to upgrade.

Im still unsure if I can do a 1 year plan(I need to talk to a VZN rep) instead of a 2 year plan, but if I can I would be a little more comfortable upgrading from my dinky LG Dare right now. Again, do you personally think it is a good time to upgrade to my first smartphone or simply waiting a little while for something else to come along?

PS. I also keep hearing about an Incredible 2...any news on that?

Think of it this way, if you keep having second doubts about pulling the trigger, you'll never end up buying a phone. Don't worry about what's coming up - it'll happen regardless. That's just part of innovation, and even when you think you're getting the latest and greatest phone, it'll be outdated within weeks. Instead, you should be buying a phone that you feel will meet your daily needs, and use that as the criteria.

Thats what I figured, its kind of like all the Smartphone companies are holding a carrot out in front of us and eventually we just have to reach for it, even if there is a tomato RIGHT behind it in order to get SOMETHING. Ok so that analogy worked better in my head. Essentially I just want to upgrade at the "perfect time" if something like that even exists.

What he said.

In short, Phone tech is moving at a ridiculous pace.....just buy whatever you see and like....

The better phone will inevitably come...and it will come fast, no matter when or what phone you end up with.

Like others said... you need to just bite the bullet and get something.

There will always be new phones, they are releasing 1-2 decent ones every month (and several more not worth mentioning). And a quick look at tech blogs will show you that its not slowing down anytime soon.

If you keep waiting for the next best thing you are going to find yourself buried with that same LG Dare. Grave robbers might end up digging you up to sell your antique technology ;)

I have client's asking me which is the best Smartphone out there constantly (I have a lot of lawfirms as clients. I am a self-employed IT Engineer). Many of them will buy whatever I have because they trust me. I tell them to get whatever THEY like! I use this analogy:

I don't want someone buying me a new puppy and dropping it off for me to keep for 13+ years... They may bring me a HUGE, long hair dog and I may want a small, short hair dog.

The point is, there's no "One size fits all" with smartphones. You have to get the one that's right for you, and on THIS forum, the one that fits most is the Incredible!

The "best time" to buy is when you can get the best deal on a phone that YOU"RE happy with. That said, now is probably the best time to buy an Inc. because they've been out long enough for the price to start dropping. I'd say that now is an excellent time since the Inc. has been out long enough to get some of the kinks worked out, now with the upgrade to 2.2 you can jump on board, spend less $$ that most folks did and have the new OS just like everyone else. I'd also say that starting with the Inc. as your first smartphone is a great move. It should be an easy transition for you. I started with the buggy Eris....That was a nightmare!!

The "perfect time" to get the latest phone is on the launch day. Therefore, you can be 100% sure that it is not phased out, it's the latest.

Incredible man! All the way, if you think it's going to be phased out, then just remember that you won't have to test rooting and all its possibilities because it'll already be done by others. I just recently got an incredible and it was perfect timing. Right before 2.2 came (unknowingly) and everyone knew how to root 2.1 and make it last forever all while 2.2 was in the works and ROMs had been in the works for the leaked versions of 2.2. Can't get much better than that, haha.

It's by far the best purchase I have made for awhile.

I swear when i read your post it was as if I was the one that wrote it lol Im in the EXACT same situation as you are... currently with my LG dare which i now despise due to some sides of the screen no longer functioning and Im also now able to get an upgrade.
I was considering getting an incredible for some time now and rescently thought about getting the droid 2 instead... but I think ima go for the incredible so hopefully its just a matter of days till i get it.

I think you should do the same, I mean if we try to have the newest device out there we'll only be happy for a couple weeks with so many phones coming out.

I went from the Dare to the X. The difference in phone functionality is amazing! The longer you wait the more you will say to yourself "Why didn't I do this sooner?" when you finally upgrade. The toughest part is selecting a device - you have 4 great options available - each with their own unique style and benefits. Go to the store and play.

Of course I love my inc, but I would do cartwheels down the street for an incredible the size of an X (ala EVO). My son has the X and both he and I are fairly big dudes. I feel like the X fits our hands perfect, where the inc feels like it could slip through my fingers at any moment.

All that being said... I wouldn't trade my inc for anything short of another HTC on VZW with a BIG ASS Footprint.

I am in agreement on blur though... they should have named it blahhhhh instead.

PS: Find what you like, and dont look back. or... wait till spring and another whole line of phones will be out between now and then!

I was in the store today for an hour on the Droidx and Droid2, and left with a new case for my Incredible lol. the Droidx is too big, it sucks. and droid2, keyboard is nice, but i need root. blur is a bummer.

Pretty funny, I'd actually like the exact opposite.. If the Inc was a little smaller. OR
why couldn't HTC just do an Eris2. The droid Eris with a snapdragon, now that would have been a killer phone.

Get the Inc. were getting white and red back doors lol!!! who doesnt use a case these days on a $400 phone...

I don't. I hate covers on my phones...I think they make the phones too bulky.

And no, I don't have insurance.

And yes, I have dropped my phones. But I've gotten better. My last phone I dropped it only once. It got a small scratch on the corner of it, but that was it. Thank god, it was about 1 month before I could finally get my Dinc...so I didn't care :).

I do hope that I don't drop my Dinc. The grippy back makes it much easier to keep in my hand.
