Who's buying it and what's your gameplan?

Well, I'm 99% there on deciding that the Fasc will be my next phone, enough that I may order before even getting my hands on one Thursday. I'm a smartphone newbie, and likely an average consumer user at best. I am a little concerned about the possible GPS issues, as I hope to use GPS apps to track biking and hiking, as well as for occasional use as a navigator. But the reviews are all over the board on the GPS, so I'm willing to give it a shot at this point.

Anyway, for those of you who have decided to buy, what's your plan? Pre-ordered at Best Buy? Online order thru Verizon tomorrow? Arrive at the Verizon store early on the 9th? Does anyone believe this phone will sell out this weekend and get on backorder like the DX? Personally, I don't think it will be a problem getting one, but my opinion is very uninformed.

Still trying to decide whether to jump on the Fascinate or hold off and see if the HTC Evo-like device is coming out on Verizon in December.

For me the biggest thing is how good the radio/transmitter is on the Samsung Fascinate. I live in a poor 1x/3G signal area, so reception/audio quality in a phone are at the top of my list. Please post back when you get the Fascinate as to the quality of the phone's audio and how it holds a signal.

I'm in the same boat as you. I have an 'antique' phone, so I am noob to a lot of the rooting threads (but I just might get ambitious and try it). I'm also 99% on getting the Fascinate.

Based on what I've read in these forums and elsewhere on the web, I doubt this phone will sell out. I talk to people about cell phones and many of them have never even heard of this phone. Verizon doesn't really seem to be pushing this phone very hard at all.

I'm planning on going in Thursday or Friday and getting it taken care of.

The GPS thing isn't a big deal for me. I'm kind of puzzled as to what everyone is using the GPS feature for so frequently. I guess if you are a traveling salesman or a taxi driver or something, that makes sense. Aside from being on vacation, I won't be using the GPS too much. Of course, I am hoping the update to 2.2 comes soon and resolves the GPS issue as well, just in case I do need the GPS in a pinch.

Mostly for use as a neat toy and when needed in a pinch. I seldom need a GPS in my city, as Salt Lake City streets are laid out in a numerical grid (N/S and E/W streets) making it very easy to find where you are going. On vacation and on rare occasions, a GPS would be handy, but not really essential enough to buy a stand-alone unit, ie a Tom-Tom. But I also cycle and hike quite a bit, and it would be nice to have the GPS on hand for route finding and tracking, as well as for logging how fast/how far/how high I went on a ride.

Not a essential element, but since I'll have the phone with me anyway, it would be a fun tool to have. Which is mostly all this phone will be for me anyway -- I really dont NEED anything but a functional phone and a calendar. And since the DX and others seem to have fully operational GPS units in them, it is one factor in favor of the DX in my pro/con balance sheet. But I like the look, screen, and other features of the Fasc enough to sway me from the bulky and blocky DX.

I'm doing the same, except i'm positive i'm keeping it because I had a Vibrant for a week or so, and I liked it a lot. I'm also getting a desktop cradle if its available...and my Dinc is already up on ebay. For some reason I never fell in love with it, I actually liked my Droid 1 better...

Does Best Buy honor price matching? I looked on their online site and it said they only price match their own stores (online/retail). Not with other retailers.

I have one on pre-order as well. If they sell out everywhere the higher price won't be a big deal, but if they have them at Verizon cheaper than it will be.. They just gave me a $50 gift card so I'm assuming I could burn that on anything and go purchase the phone at Verizon still?? The pre-order isn't binding in anyway is it?

I may end up going to Verizon anyway if they don't sell out. I'd feel a little better warranty wise, although I've read there is no difference as far as that goes.

I pre-ordered at Best Buy. I'll do my best to get them to match Verizon's same retail price or I walk.

I plan on using it ~1 week before deciding to return it or sell my HTC Incredible. So far, though, it looks like I'll be selling my HTC Incredible.

I do plan on rooting it to remove the bloat and fix the GPs (?).

I have been talking with people that actually have been using the phone for several days/weeks and they are all saying the phone is absolutely fantastic. I am just about 99% sold on this phone. I just want to go to Verizon and play with it for like 30 minutes to an hour before making my decision. If I like it, I will have to go to Best Buy and swap my Droid X for the Fascinate.

How do you just swap your X for the Fascinate? Does that mean you're paying the ETF and then paying the $199 for a new Fascinate?

I bought a Droid 2 from Best Buy on August 12th, the day it came out. Three days later I swapped it for a Droid X. I called them and they said I am still under the 30 days from when I bought the August 12th, so I can return the Droid X for the Fascinate.

I am going to take a very extensive look at both the Fascinate and the Incredible. And decide whether I want to trade my Droid X for one of these phones. My 30 days ends on the 12th, so this phone I choose on Thursday will be my phone for the next year or so.

doubt i will, but i would like to find a Verizon location Wednesday after work that would have one that i can play around w/ a day before and confirm my decision on phone (will likely get an Incredible or even a D2 if i don't like). I plan on getting online because I don't like dealing w/ MIR (still waiting over a month for a Comcast one) & want to get the BOGO deal. I really need to get hands-on w/ one tomorrow since i've got work on Thursday so that would leave me at the earliest testing out and ordering the phone that night and wouldn't get it shipped overnight until Monday :(

I use GPS every day on my D1. Google navigation will show you if there is heavy traffic along your route, if there is, you can check traffic along alternate routes. That is the best feature IMO of Google navigation.

90% Fascinate 5% DInc (hehe) & 5% whatever catches my eye.

the decision maker for me is the size.. the fascinate looks A LOT bigger than i anticipated..which yes to me is a bad thing.. the only thing stopping me from the incredible is the poopy screen & battery. but im mainly leaning towards the fasc.

Lol. I can see why you don't like the Droid X then. Also, the battery, as well as various other things, has been greatly improved now that the Incredible has Froyo. That is the main reason I am trying to decide between that and the Fascinate.

I don't feel like the incredible is on par with the fascinate in any category. The only thing that would push me towards the incredible is the possible GPS problems with the galaxy S phones. Most signs point to the Fascinate not having the same problems the other variants had, and whatever problems remain will supposedly be remedied by Samsung this month when froyo is released.

Theyre both rootable so wouldn't you go with the better hardware (fascinate)?

The fascinate might be too large for you I guess, but for me... the Incredibles screen is just too thin. 4" is the sweet spot for me.

Just wondering, as I am still trying to make sure I'M making the best decision :)

I was gonna get a Fascinate for me and my wife wanted the Droid X (if it was buy one get another equal or lesser for free).....now I might buy one Fascinate and get another for free....and the exchange one (with $35.00) for a Droid X......and if the Fascinate doesn't work out.....(worried about bing and the GPS problems)....exchange the other for a Droid X too.

No no. I was just telling Billy about the improvements to the Incredible about Froyo. I am pretty sure that I want the Fascinate. Based on the videos I have seen, I am loving the look of it. I plan on getting Launcher Pro as soon as I can get the phone even though I have no problem with TouchWiz. I also don't have an issue with Bing. Rooting is no problem either so getting Google Search on there will be a breeze.

The GPS problem really sucks, but I very rarely use GPS at all especially since I have GPS in my car.

Wow. My Best Buy is only getting 2 of them in. I am not sure how this is possible. Maybe a lot of people didn't pre-order them at this specific one. The guy wouldn't tell me how many people pre-ordered. He just told me they have a limited supply. Maybe he told me this to get my hyped up as if it is in high demand so I should hurry up and come and get it.
