AHHHH!! Locking all the threads?? WHY!?!?!

OK, I just opened 5 different threads, all on the first list of the general topic.

ALL FIVE are closed!! WHY? I have noticed ridiculously high volume of closed threads lately, I gotta say it's really irritating when you read, read, read, prepare to comment and then... ugh, ...CLOSED!?!?!

How about the Mods merge the threads if they already exist somewhere else????

And why close threads just to close them. I see one thread about "My Evo's better than yours" it has two posts, one guy being a goober, the second flaming him... then.... CLOSED. WHY!?

I demand to know WHY?????? It's not even worth the time to jump on and read threads, can hardly comment on anything at all lately.:mad::mad::mad:

Yeah.. I could care less about the topic, I just don't understand why the Mods have been so control crazy all of the sudden. This isn't XDA, it's not a developer thread where too many posts congest specific information exchange, its a community.

Opinions, questions and insight matter. The second that ends is the moment I find another forum.

I'm going through your post history and only see ONE locked thread that you have created...?

Yeah it kind of killed my thread about considering swapping my Epic for an Evo. Who wants to read pages and pages of people comparing a phone that they've never owned. I was asking people who had an Epic and came back. So much for that help huh?

Marctronixx closed your thread because "we already have an epic vs evo thread. there is an epic forum. if you want to compare the two read the epic forum and come to your own conclusions as to which phone works best for you. they are great devices. lets not start up with evo vs. ___ threads again..."

He is correct. There is no reason for multiple threads on the same subject. If you don't take the time to read through them then the previous threads are useless.

We get a lot of complaints when we merge threads, that's a fact. We also tolerate more "random" threads in The Lounge, so if you want to post a joke or something, that's where it should belong.

We lock threads that are pointless and pretty much clutter. If you disagree, you should send a private message to a moderator (if a mod posted in your thread before locking it, you should send him a private message). Generally people are more open to suggestions when they are asked politely (and with a reason), so being aggressive in a private message won't help your case.

Our main goal is to keep this place friendly for everybody, I hope you'll understand that.

I know, I said I knwo there's an Epic vs Evo thread. I know that. My thread was about Evo owners who bought an Epic and came back. There's a difference. They have first hand knowledge of daily use of this phone. That's why I wanted to know.

From what I understand, the admins and mods only want one comparison thread per phone per device forum. So if there is already some type of Evo vs Epic thread, regardless of whether its "I've owned one, switched, then switched back" or "Which one should I buy?" they are essentially under the same umbrella topic. I'm assuming this is to prevent insurmountable clutter and an ambiguous way of moderation. If we let one "I got an evo but want an epic" type thread, stay, then we must leave all. You have to remember that we are judged by members on consistency. If we lock/merge one person's, and don't for another, people get mad. So to save the staff the trouble of the backlash, we are keeping a consistent stand and by having one comparison thread, people can read ALL comments from ALL types of users.

Perhaps we would benefit from putting a strike-through on the titles of closed threads.

And/or, perhaps we should try to merge when appropriate, rather than close.

Now that is an intelligent statement. All the previous responses are only mentioning or justifying why they have been closed. Neither side can win if we only look at the basic position, to close or not.

I did however put a strong emphasis on the fact that investing time in reading threads only to find them closed at the end is, well, disappointing.

Phases, I appreciate your ability to understand what I have written and I fully support your recommendation. Thanks.

Taking note of the
thread_lock.gif
on the thread list, prior to clicking the thread link, could temper that disappointment a bit for you. ;)

Keep in mind that we as a staff cannot please everyone, and your stance is one side of the story, whereas other members may feel perfectly fine with threads being locked/merged, and the aesthetics of locked threads. I would also assume that you were fine with this until your thread got locked.

It was not mine that got locked.

That's fine. I still stand by what I said in that post before that sentence. Unfortunately we can't please everyone, and I can assure you that merging threads pissed ALOT of people off, so that surely is not the way to go either. People become confused since merged threads mesh together and posts just go in chronological order, thus you'll have posts that don't make any sense in between two posts.

That's why everyone should quote the post they are refering to, makes merging SO much easier!

Not to be argumentative in anyway, but I believe your thread title along with

ALL FIVE are closed!! WHY?
I demand to know WHY??????

in your original post would be the reason that all the responses up to Phases' were explanations instead of solutions.

http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-4g/170499-my-evo-vs-epic-rant.html

Can I ask why this one was locked when other similar threads were left open?
I thought that this poster made several valid points, and posted some "real" reasons why he would choose one phone over the other.
I know it was titled "rant" but it really wasn't a rant imo.
He was a new member with very few posts.
If I would have been him, I would have felt like I was unwelcome in the Android forums, and gone elsewhere.
Perhaps his thread could have been merged, and then posters like me could have commented about what points we agree/disagree with, and asked any questions pertaining to his thread, thus welcoming, and involving him in the forum discussions.

I haven't been in the Evo/Epic forums regularly however, I would assume the other ones were left open so that threads like this could be posted in there. Obviously that didn't happen, hence the lock. Again, this is only what I'm assuming and may be completely off, however that seems like the most logical explanation.

Roze, unfortunately a lot of people don't quote! Hence, merging large threads = one big mess.
