I assume you mean unrevoked3?

That is how I first rooted. And then when I realized it wasn't a full root, I ran simpleroot (toast's method with GUI) right from there. worked fine.

I might do this now.
I downgraded and then flashed the stock 2.2 via unrevoked3. You did this without any problems?

Will the simpleroot wipe my phone..again..? lol

I have wiped it so many times now

Edit: Btw i grabbed the netarchy kernal from your sig, and put that on. I love it. Super fast and wireless tethering works like a charm

I = so confused at this point. Lol i guess ill have to wait until later this evening.

So download and flash 2.1 using my amon recovery i have on the phone
Use simple root
And then flash back the 2.2 if I so desire?

Yes. Simpleroot only works on a 2.1 system. Flash a rooted 2.1 ROM to satisfy that requirement. Remember, the only reason you need to run Simpleroot is to unlock NAND, which unrevoked3 did not do. So go back to 2.1. Run Simpleroot. Now you will be fully rooted, and you can flash whatever ROM you want. 2.2 stock is a good place to start, along with a custom kernel.

I appreciate it. I got the unrevoked3 and the netarchy kernal, which satisfied my desire for shootme, wifi tether, fps unlock..and works very nice..
But now i want a little more out of rooting.

If what i am thinking is right and i cant get my hands on a PC, toasts method is a full root just like simpleroot, except for the more drawn out method.....?

Simpleroot and toast's method are the same. But if you're on a mac, you have to do it the manual way I think. You'll need to get adb working on your Mac. And you know who's a good resource for that kinda thing? EarlyMon. He's a Mac user, fully rooted Evo, and he's pretty damn good with linux/unix.

Thanks. Ive had a few PM's with him during my rooting journey actually, and hes been a great help.

I just read over the Mac version of toasts method and it looks good..I think ill tackle that this evening.

One more thing to bother you with..sorry.. If i re format my sd card with my evo will that hurt the root at all..? its got so much crap on it....

SD card contents don't affect your root.

I just ran unr3voked 2 days ago and the whole flashing thing is somewhat of a foreign language to me. how do i flash over the android 2.1 rom?

I'm in the same boat, but I also did unrevoked forever. Shoud I apply the s-on tool first, then flash stock 2.1 rooted, then simple root? Also would it be a good idea to then re flash unrevoked forever after simple root?

I don't think you need to do any of that. You have S-OFF (NAND unlocked) so you can just flash your way to a full root. Assuming you don't have a custom recovery image, it's pretty trivial to flash one.

First, you need to get the recovery .IMG file and put it on your PC (not your phone or SD card).

use the bootloader's FASTBOOT to flash the recovery image. Make sure phone is plugged in via USB (w/ android usb drivers installed on the PC). Make sure phone is at the FASTBOOT USB screen. Rename the .img file to recovery.img for simplicity. From PC, go to the Android SDK's Tools folder. Put recovery.img in this location. From a cmd window at this tools directory, run:

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

Done. Now you have a custom recovery image. Now, boot into the recovery image, and you can flash any ROM you want, including a rooted 2.2 stock ROM.

I know I simplified the procedure; I don't know what your experience level is, but if you need more details, let me know.

Starting from the beginning, I downgraded my ota 2.2. Then rooted with unrevoked, and flashed netarchy.

Last night i was tired and got myself really confused.
I flashed stock 2.1, wiped my SD card cuz it was junked up.. and I'm not sure how I did it the reflashing. But i did a few things and got scared that i was going to brick and stopped.

I want to get back to stock 2.2 with netarchy again while i catch up on some reading. I'm just confused from a lot I've read and am looking for some simple steps to get root stock 2.2 reflashed, and get amon recovery back on so I can wipe caches and get netarchy on, because that was smooth and worked fine.
