help me defend android

So I have a friend who is an Apple fanboy. My last phone before switching to Android was an iPhone. My buddy is trying to peg me that Android is no good. I told him it does everything.... He immediately came back with "Can it run iOS?" I think thats dumb... but can it?

On the subject, my company sends proofs so the customer can review what they need. I received an order with a different sig every time,

"Sent from my glorious black iphone4"
"Sent from my awesome ipad"

I use thunderbird on our boxes here at work but just for shats and cackles I replied via my X, which contained my nice little embedded logo.

His response, "I can't see the attachment, my phone won't recognize it"
My reply, "Oh sorry, I replied using my cell, let me convert it so you can view"
His response, "Oh I see, what was it originally?"
My reply, "Flash"
His response, ""

This understandably confused him, hes contacting support now wondering why his Macintosh product won't play flash...

Can an OS run an OS? Of course not.. The hardware is MORE than capable however.


First off.. iOS is like a canvass that is restricted to only 2 colors. Android is like a Huge wall with 256 colors available.

Android is open source and the limitations are in the hardware, where as with iOS the limitations are all in the software.


Apple doesn't hold a candle to Android. The only thing Apple has going for it is it's clean/stylish interface.. which I will say is spectacular. I have an itouch and an iPad and I love them, but I would never trust them with my cellphone... esp. because they're locked to a single, crappy network.

That's not true.. Anyone can get a virus on any OS if they're not smart with their use. However, I'm not here to Bash Apple. I have a Mac and a few Windows, and when I do webdesign (Flash, Photoshop, Video Editing, etc.) my choice is Apple all the way. It's just so well at handling those aspects of technology; lets not kid ourselves here. The only good video program I have found for Windows is Vegas (Which is pretty awesome btw). But yes, that's the beauty of America and the Free market; We don't have to CHOOSE one, we can use both for their strengths, and avoid their weaknesses.

I know you're probably on the defensive, and not the offensive, which is how it should stay. Every once in a while whip out the SNES or something like that if you guys like old school games and ask him how Apples SNES emulator is.

Or if you're confident enough, next time he gives you shit, just challenge him to a test or something.

I mean it isn't a huge deal, but I really don't see the comparison. It does everything iOS does and then gives you the freedom to do more. Maybe it doesn't have 1 bazillion apps, but if he brings that up, tell him to go into the market and look at how many are "lite" versions and how many are just straight up crap.

I don't think you will find many "android fans" that would say they think I Phone hardware is not great. Well besides the proprietary connector and non removable battery that is. What I am trying to say is, If you really think IOS is so hot, then run an I phone. I have never seen IOS on an android handset but They have put Android on the last two I Phones. That says a lot in my opinion: Hardware= good, firmware+ not so much. Now with the Droid X, EVO, Galaxy S, Droid 2 Epic 4G there are plenty of stylish power packed hardware packages out there for android so if you want android, buy android. If you Want IOS, buy an I Phone or an I pad
