Help HTC Hero overheat

Whenever I play music on my HTC Hero white 3G locked 2.1 phone it starts to overheat and eventually turn off.

For example I played a 6 min mp3 64kbps through the speaker which resulted in the temp rising from 28.8 C to 54.6 C also the battery was reduced from 32 percent to 3 percent. This was all over six minutes

Also the music app default on HTC hero doesn't recognize the music hence I am using mSpot to play the music.

Faulty phone or my fault?

P.S I have had the phone running multiple apps incl GPS + wifi with much less heat.

Did not spot you were using the speaker. I don't know how you can stand the horrible sound of it for 6 minutes - your music must sound like it is has been recorded in a tin can!

I do not think it is really designed for continuous use like this - I only use it as a speakerphone and for sat nav directions.

For the sake of research I tried listening to music through the speaker. Could only stand it for about 4 minutes before i started geting a headache with the tinny raquet. However during that time I had no appreciable battery use or rise in temperature - so you may be right that it is a faulty phone.

Just returned by 8 month old hero due to it locking up thru heat after being used for 15 minutes continuously , replying to emails.
First few times i assumed it was me , but it does same if it gets hot in it's belt holder , if i have my jacket sitting closed over the top.
Bottom half of the tiuch screen becomes totally unresponsive , and upper half cause ''phone'' button at bottom of screen to flicker ''green'' on and off rapidly.
Makes using it impossible.
Told it will be 15 working days ( 3 weeks before it might be back )

Well to be honest I won't use it that much but I was wondering, like you, how the voice navigation would last.
Mine works fine with sat nav. In my car I use it with my Bury car phone kit, so it does not use the loudspeaker, instead the sound goes through the car audio.

However just come back from hols in the SA where I used it on loudspeaker for the sat nav and it was OK. But then remember that does not have the continuous use that music gives it, and it is plugged into the car adaptor anyway

Yep that's true which is why, as mentioned a few mins ago, I shall keep the phone unless something as serious as harlequin1963's problem occurs

Also - why won't the music player recognize my mp3s but play amr's fine (amr still causes overheating) ?
