Help How to get the Droid 1 car mount to work with the droid 2

I dont know if this should be in the Accessories or not but here we go..

Like some people I orginally had the Droid 1 and Verizon upgraded me to the Droid 2 for a warranty replacement. The multimedia station works great but as everyone knows the car mount does not work. Does anyone know if there is a way to modify the Droid 1 car mount to work with the Droid 2 or if there is a way to buy just the new "face plate" on the car mount for the Droid 2 since they do look similar and it appears that they are the same car mount with just a different "face plate" that attaches to the phone.

Any info would be great.

I was thinking about this the other night, and figured that maybe just heating the two tabs that are not too tight and bending them out a bit might work.

I held it over my gas stove and let it get a hot and gave it a shot...didn't get it to move much, but did prove that it might work, as it moved a little.

I was a little nervous about burning myself and/or the mount, so I stopped, but that might be an option if you're skilled/crazy enough.

That was my first thought as well and think I might give it a try but then I might run inot a problem with the clip part on the other side as well

I went ahead and bought the D2 dock today at a VZW store...$29 w/my corp discount, and has some nice features that tipped me over to getting it rather than modifying my D1 dock.

Main benefit is the built in charging port, so I don't have to plug in my droid to my charger separately and then insert it in the dock - charger goes to port on back of dock and Droid fits in charger port inside the dock. VZW gave me a $50 credit as a part of my hassles w/all my D1 refurbs, so I came out + even w/the purchase...my two multimedia docks (work and home) fit fine so I'm good there.

Putting the phone in the dock is also better w/the D2 dock, just drops/slides in, and w/my new Arkon vent mount I'm much happier overall w/the setup.

Anyone wanna buy a D1 car dock?

I also purchased the D2 dock and have my D1 dock sitting in a bag.

The d2 dock is much better with the built in charger port, also it's not covering up the camera with the backing plate, and has a hinged grabber on top.....nice.

Yeah...I don't mean to gush, but I really, really like the new Droid car dock...(which works perfectly w/D1 as well).

Using it w/the Arkon vent mount is a perfect match. Extremely happy w/this, they really did a nice job w/the new car dock system.

I will prolly jsut cave in and but the car dock because I have a corporate discount as well and I think I just sold my D1 car dock for 10 or 15 bucks...... they are going for 19.99 brand new with no charger..... 10 or 15 sounds reasonable to me

Do it - you won't regret it...whoever put the D2 car dock together did a very nice job.

Even my wife was impressed...that just doesn't happen w/phone gear very often.

I love my car dock, but....

The audio is disabled when in the car dock, or more specifically when the charge is connected.

Has anyone else had this problem?

PS - I just got my droid 2 a two weeks ago.

I received my D2 as a replacement for a faulty D1. So as soon as i realized my D2 wouldn't fit in the D1 car dock I took it to Verizon and they replaced the dock for free! Doesn't hurt to ask before going the melting route.

Does the droid 2 mount still allow you to slide open and use the qwerty keyboard while the device is attached to the mount? That's a dealbreaker for me and I haven't been able to find info...

If the price was right, I'd possibly purchase a Droid 1 car dock...

I used a small gas torch like the ones you use for lighting a BBQ and a pair of pliers and it works a treat. I can do a photo of the finished job if u want. Let me know.

yes the keyboard will slide up when on the dock
