Apparently there's an "80% chance" of a T-Mobile iPhone | TG Daily

With months and months (and months!) of rumors circulating about another carrier getting the rights to the iPhone, there must be something brewing, and now there's a report that says T-Mobile has an 80% shot at nabbing Apple's phone. Apple fan site Cult of Mac reportedly has an exclusive source that claims T-Mobile and Apple are now in an "advanced stage" of discussion over the iPhone, and "it's 80 percent likely that the iPhone will be coming to T-Mobile in Q3."

T-Mobile is a more likely immediate choice, though, because its network runs on the same sort of wireless spectrum at AT&T, called GSM. Verizon's network, though, runs through a technology called CDMA, so to get an iPhone on Verizon would require substantially more work on the hardware of the device itself.

We've all heard the Verizon rumors for years now; this one's totally new to me. As a T-Mobile customer, I'm not sure how I feel about this. Even though they were the first to carry an Android phone with the G1, they now don't exactly have the best selection of high-end Android phones. If they start carrying the iPhone would that mean that they'd pull back from Android and have an even smaller selection? Or would the extra income that the Apple fanboys bring mean they'd have more money to spend on getting the good Android phones?

What about the network? I've never had a voice connection issue in the 7 years I've been with them and they've been working pretty hard to improve data coverage quickly. Would the iPhone users flood the available data capacity and make it worse, or again, would their money allow them to expand even faster?

the iphone has been confirmed on UK t mobile but is still not out most other network providers have had it from day one!
there's so much going on on the t mo forum but still no set date they blame it on t mo engineers still testing it.

That is the only reason I am with Tmo. Aside of course from there superb customer service. I have everything unlimited with two lines and after taxes I pay around $150. I barely have an issue with 3g and I definitley don't have an issue with dropped calls

As far as Iphone coming to Tmo, I dont think it will hurt at all. I was dying for them to come so long ago but now I could care less ever since I got my Vibrant. I think that my phone is winning by a nose length against the I4 and its light years ahead of the 3gs. I'm hoping that this forces HTC and others to come out and compete even more with the Iphone.

All this does is give the consumer more options and forces the phone manufacturers to step up even more for Tmo. So come-on Mr. Jobs, and bring your duct tape with you!!!

AT&T is crappy in my area and T-Mo has never dropped a call on me.

I am hoping I don't have to trade my Nexus for an Incredible or Droid X and pay more $ to Verizon...

I left Verizon late last year.... don't want to go back because the iFans are clogging T-Mo up.

It all depends on where you are! AT&T service in St. Louis is crap, but in 6 years I never dropped a call or had slow data speeds on T-Mobile anywhere in the country except for rural Iowa. Plus TMo has a 4G-type (I forget what it's called - HSPA?) network actively rolling out, not just "in the works" like some carriers.

It's not the worst idea Apple has ever had...

I doubt it can be avoided.
T-Mobile would see dollar signs and Apple would see possible market share increase to offset it's declining market share.

At this point if it's true Apple is probably trying to stop it's falling share and even reverse it.
T-Mobile is another way out for them since Verizon slammed the door.

I don't like it but I can always go to another carrier... get a Droid X on Verizon where I know there are no iPhoneys chewing up all the bandwidth.

I can't say I've ever had any signal problems with TMobile. Over the 6 years I've used them with a dumb phone and the few months with an Android I've had maybe 3 or 4 dropped calls (last time was quite a while ago) unless I was in the basement of a big building...

Hopefully the fact that it will apparently be just the iPhone 3GS and not the 4 will keep the throngs of fanboys away and the network won't be flooded like AT&T was.

You mean when (never) Steve finally listens and does a redesign of the iFailHarder 4? It's a hardware problem because the antenna is on the outside where you touch it... flashy design, yes. Practical, no.

The iPhone 4 sure did revolutionize the phone again, even the way you're now forced to hold it in order to make something as simple as a phone call.
