GPS Fix 9/18/2010 Over the Air

Pushed customer service with the threat of demanding a phone that worked within the one year warranty, they went up 2 levels of service representatives and they say that the GPS fix will start rolling out OTA on Sept. 18. If they don't fix it by month end I will demand either a phone that works, or another phone, or my money back.

This is interesting. I'm one who came to the conclusion that a "fix" would be included with the Froyo update supposedly coming at the end of the month.

...representatives and they say that the GPS fix will start rolling out OTA on Sept. 18...

hmmm, i have seen no word anywhere with that date

You just did. lol Tmo/Samsung would never press-release any kind of info on a release date; if they did and then missed the date, they would have a PR nightmare on their hands.

this reminds me alot of a motorola phone i got back in the begining of 2004. the v710 or something like that.... anyway it was a trick little phone back then (had a pretty hi res screen, micro sd slot and a 1.3mp camera and bluetooth) anyway it was advertised as being able to sync contacts and it never did so there was a class action suit like 3 years later in 2007 (I had just got a new iPhone so I didnt have the motorola anymore) and they sent me a check for 400 bucks for the motorola lol.
maybe if they dont fix this issue we will see something simalar in the future.

I believe BiGMERF was talking about not seeing the Sept. 18th date posted anywhere as being the GPS fix date. I don't believe he was questioning the fact that Froyo will be out this month. Personally, I hope them to be one in the same.

I dont know about any Specific Dates either but this is a separate article about the GPS Fix. September release but no date.

you got 400 bucks from a class action law suit on a cell phone, are you serious? How is that even possible, are you sure it wasn't like 4 dollars or 4 cents?

Are you talking the Motorola Vphone? Uhmm, interesting. Vphone existed in 2000 which is a tiny little phone for its time and smaller than the then much famed Motorola Startac. You got a $400 refund on it? I had two of those phones (lost the first one and had no insurance. Go figure and coughed out another $400 to get a replacement). Apart from the small form factor, that phone was rubbish and my $400 replacement battery cover broke and battery kept slipping rendering the phone mostly useless. I got a refurbished Samsung junker as a insurance replacement.

Anyways, to cut the long story short, how did I not receive a $400 check? I should have gotten 2 of them. Never got any mail or communication from Motorola or any lawyers in that regard. Can I still get my money back? I would so love to get the $800 plus taxes back.

Only time I have gotten any money back from any class action is Apple Ipod 2G battery class action. Apple sent me a gift voucher saying I can either get $25 cash or $50 credit from Apple Store and I went with the latter and applied it towards my first Iphone.

That was a Verizon class action suit for the v710. They disabled all the cool bluetooth features that Motorola had been advertising for the phone. The only thing they left intact was using a headset. That's when everyone started to realise how much Verizon was crippling their phones for the extra $0.25 cents to get your pictures off the phone or $2.99 for a ringtone.

Well I guess everyone will know pretty soon how accurate your information is. 22Hrs left till the 18th.

Remember, when the clock strikes midnight, and the 18th rolls around, you can try and force the update by going to settings...then software update. You can only do this once in a twenty four hour period.

Another method, not sure how great it works, which some android users in the past claim has worked, is tricking the date. If the OTA is already up, and just waiting for the 18th que, you may be able to trick the system by pushing your date ahead. Pushed my phones date ahead, I'll give it a couple hours to see what happens. So far nothing, my phone thinks its the 23rd.

Not a peep about this being 2.2, so I'm betting, if it comes, it'll just be a gps fix and some other minor things.

I'm hoping the lag issue (i.e. slow market) will be fixed sooner rather than later, but that's not looking great at the moment. I've hesitated doing the lag fix "hack", but might if this update comes and goes with no fix.

Having froyo in this gps optimization would be a wonderful gift. However, in my opinion, T-Mobile will not release froyo until after the G2 launch. We can expect it in late october.

just my opinion!

ps...I complained to T-mobile about their slow phone updates, I let them know their phone support is way behind every other carrier, maybe you guys should call and voice your opinion also.

People like you get on my d@mn nerves. I work for Garmin and come across people like you all the time. Let me be the one who tells you that a threat doesn't mean sh!t. You can whine and moan all you want but that does not make anything move any faster. Hell they prob told you that just to get your whining butt off the phone.

You work at Garmin?

Maybe you can provide insight into the GPS issue.

Are you and your fellow Garmin friends laughing at Samsung and the GPS debacle?
