***Sorry for the double post Mods, but I thought this was worthy of being in the T-Mobile G1 and News forums. If you must delete one of them I will not hold it against you.***

My coworker just called in a threatened to switch to a Blackberry because of the horrid battery they threw in here. And the T-Mobile Rep said that they were getting ready to ship out free "higher" capacity battery upgrades to all G1 users.

They said that this was due to a defect HTC found in the battery that was causing it to drain too fast. Me thinks that is another way of saying "shit, they're on to us, we knew we should have put a high-capacity battery in there and now we really have to respond to save this device from total demise." The battery really has been the achilles heel if there is one.

So, hopefully noone went out and bought the high-capacity battery.

I've been off the forum for awhile so hopefully this is still news. couldn't find it in any other posts.

Thanks for the rumor...and welcome back. It goes without saying what we will hope on this one....

Thanks dkaufman1,
yes, I was hoping for some double confirmation on this, as it does feel slightly rumor-ish, but this came direct from a T-Mobile Rep. That would be quite a bold-face lie if turned out to be untrue.
I have no reason to think that this coworker would lead me on. They were really pissed about the battery life and sounded sincerely placated.

That said, I don't have any info on a planned ship date.

Look at it this way...co-worker not likely lying...Customer Srv. Reps have said much worse to get someone off the phone or keep them with any company.

Think about this...what is the cost to Tmobile/HTC/Google in money and in PR both positive and negative (G1 didn't get shipped with the right one.)

What is required logistically?

Is this Tmobile USA or Global?

Lots of things to consider. Finally, other than laptop batteries exploding has there ever been a case of "not enough power, recall?"

I hope it is globally. Well, UK at least. The battery life is the only thing I have to complain about with my G1, and it can be very poor at times.

The guys at my local T-Mobile shop didn't know anything about the 3.5mm headphone adapter thing being included with G1s now, so if that's a US only upgrade, then I'm afraid that the battery swap will be too :(

It would appear that dkaufman1 is the wise one here. I just called business care and they hadn't heard of anything like that. And my darn coworker didn't get a name while talking to them. Plus my coworker didnt have the necessary info to get into the account, so there was no ticket created or any way of tracing anything back and finding out who that rep was. No way of extracting any revenge for their vicious lies!

hey guys, time to come back in from the mailbox, we have work to do.

Are we suppose to ask for the 3.5 mm headphone thing, or does it just come in the box?

They really need to combine these two posts... the other post of exact same content already answered all of this..... there is no "free battery" and no we will not get the head phone adapter unless it is a new purchase.............

Hey, I was just having a little fun, note the smiley faces. :D:thinking: And to be fair, that wasn't a spelling error, you used a completely different word. If you'd typed "wofully", leaving out the "e" that would be a spelling error. "whoafully" is more like a comprehension error, as you didn't know the correct word. Not a big deal, and neither is offering up a friendly correction.
