i bought this app for my X and bought my cable. what a hunk of crap. are people really using this and happy with it? why would Verizon and Motorola even hype an HDMI port if it dont work? who wants to just look at their media pictures? everyone wants to watch youtube or hulu videos and its crap. nice work everyone. Anyone know of any "real" apps that will work correctly?

I've been using it to watch movies, play NES, SNES and Gamboy ROMS through my X and onto the big screen and have not had a problem with it. The only drawback is the X screen not mirroring what's being displayed on the TV.

What isn't working correctly for you?

This is easily one of the most useful apps I have downloaded. I think it is worth every penny. You have to be doing something wrong.

Agreed. Besides, you could very easily have submitted a return of the app less than 24 hours from purchasing it.

I always make sure to read reviews before purchasing anything, especially apps.

i have no problem with the app. the only thing i use it for is NFL Network and it works just fine.

My only issue is resolution and scaling.if I try to watch a flash video online in full screen it looks like crap and doesn't scale right to the larger screen. Still props to the dev for vetting this far

The only problem I have with it is the black bars that show up on some apps, mainly the NFL streaming videos. Other than that I love it.

the screen mirroring is whats messing me up. i cant figure out what i'm choosing on the phone? i was more or less bitching about the HDMI sucking caused by Verizon and Motorola. just frustrated with the app, but i know the developer only has so much to work with. sorry if that was taken wrong. I just want to watch Youtube videos and I plugged it in last night and i just got frustrated .

Yeah, its gonna be one thing or the other - I don't like paying for apps, I have 2 out of the god knows how many that are indeed paid for, and this is one of them - worth every penny, all 199 of em....

OP, this was almost more of hit than root (for me at least) - you think you can go alter an OS's I/O be my guest.

To the DEV, keep up the great work - I look forward to what can be done now this is unleashed

EDIT - I see we have the same gripe (only one for me) on this app, you can't see on your X what's displayed on the TV, but maybe this is why the app is "stuck" at the moment with this one flaw, before without any app, in gallery, you couldn't see the picture on your X and TV at the same time, you had your little "controller" app pull up. Play around a bit with it, learn the landscape as they say of your phone, I've gotten really used to knowing where to touch.

Someone mentioned maybe trying to use a keyboard with this app. With the keyboard arrow keys that might be a good idea if it works. U might can use the arrow keys to navigate the phone.

The dev did an update to make it easier to turn the app off n on so u can have a specific screen frozen on the phone. That helps with no mirror image possible right now, if ever. (I read where he said it probably wont be possible at all due to hardware)

Considering Motorola crippled the hell outta the HDMI (the EVO's is even better than the X's) Real HDMI is a nice treat.

I can understand that. When I was shopping for it, I was looking at it in the store, I saw the HDMI port and went "Ooo, cool, I forgot it had that!" Then after placing my order and going home, I was looking at more details and found out the HDMI port doesn't do anything. WTF is that about? Hopefully the FroYo update makes it useable. Otherwise, what a waste it is sitting there.

Screen mirroring won't happen. If you read his more recent post about the issue, (not the original one) you will see that he's found out that the hardware is completely incapable of mirroring the display. Someone very knowledgeable about the TI chip explained, in detail, how the buffers work to render everything. He even went as far as to give him actual documentation. Gman mentioned the possibility of doing some sort of a delayed screen update every few moments, but he isn't sure how that will affect the output on the television.

It won't happen. Sorry. The application is still great and I love it. It allowed me to watch some John Doe on one of the flatscreens with my family one evening, when I wanted to show them what the show was like.

I can't wait to see the day when Real HDMI is finally made into a widget or a function that other developers start putting into their apps. Gman said it would happen eventually, but I believe the app is still technically in beta, so I think it has a ways to go still.

Motorola intentionally limited HDMI-out capabilities to the gallery. The only restriction that Motorola really placed on the HDMI-out capability is that it's limited to playing non-DRM-protected media. You can't really expect them to incorporate the functionality to every single Android app, can you? Even gman has stated that various applications may not display properly via Real HDMI because some developers create their applications with specific screen sizes in mind. Please explain if you meant something different or I didn't understand.

I haven't tried outputting anything to the TV, don't have a cable (what I read made it sound like the HDMI didn't do anything yet), so I guess I misunderstood. But if I understand you, I can play pics and video I've taken with the phone? If I load a full movie onto it, can I play that too? I'm not concerned about playing apps on my TV, but I'd like to load movies on it to take with me when I travel or go visit somebody.

I'm gonna be honest, if you had high hopes for the HDMI port being useful on this then I'd say you need to re-evaulate your expectations.

I pretty much assumed that the HDMI out on the phone was a bid to sell more gadgets to dads with too much money and no knowledge of hardware. At this point, android's not quite ready to be belching out full HD videos to drive large-scale displays. If you want that, buy an appletv or something.

High-end phones have this sort of crap tacked onto them all the time. Back in the day, when cameraphones first came out they had an absolutely bullshit resolution and were pretty much useless. Manufacturers got wise of the fact that their little ploy to draw in folks who thought consolidating two gadgets would be neat, now they're standard. These days you get other crap tossed onto phones - HDMI out, 3d cameras, dual SIM slots, kickstands - that are not fully thought out, only really suitable for any real use by hardcore users willing to dick with their hardware, and basically intended to make their device more appealing in a sea of devices that have similar specs/software. There might be a point in the future where people see the need to hook your phone up to your TV to play video or use apps, but we're not there now - it's a novelty, and it's something that Motorola can use to elevate their kit over other people's hardware.
