I tried very hard to brick my phone yesterday (I actually did but I recovered) but all it taught me was that I can unbrick it. Now I am really determined to find a stable update.zip file to update my sprint hero which is not going to be upgraded by Sprint. If anyone find one please let me know. I tried one for a nexus, I think from the UK but it bricked the phone.

Check out the CyanogenMod6 (CM6) RC1 rom over at the xda-developers forum. That is what I am using to run Froyo on my CDMA Hero. Worked like a charm!

It's pretty solid for not being the final version. There's a few bugs every now and then but if the final release is going to be better then this, it's going to be a great rom. Check it out, I don' think you'll be disappointed :D

ok i'm a little confused. to "brick" one's phone is to cause the phone to become "like a brick", as in you have screwed it up so bad it is useless other than as a paper weight. so what exactly were you to trying to do?

This is what he said about the brick:
I tried one for a nexus, I think from the UK but it bricked the phone.

But why on earth would someone purposefully try and brick their phone?

On subject, yes the CM6 RC1 runs great, I haven't updated any nightlies since RC1 because it runs good enough for me and I wanted to wait for the final. I have recently went back to a modified stock because I miss the rosie, and the stock clock (although I did find an almost exact replacement from the market, including the animations).

Flashing the nightlies erases everything if you are just running the cm6 rc1 correct?

No, flashing the nightlies does not erase anything. You can flash a nightly over another nightly(or RC1)

You do NOT have to wipe data, just wipe cache and Davlik cache

Make a nandroid first before you flash a new nightly
