no 3G? but EDGE working

So I live in Irvine, CA and on the coverage map my entire city is DARK blue. I just got my g1 today and the internet was ridiculously slow and at the top it said E instead of 3G so I assume im still on EDGE.

Is there something you have to do to enable 3G?

i saw 3g for about 15 seconds. what is causing this?

I live in Anaheim and my 3g works great... I would however see if you connect 3g outside or just walk around... I have found I have 2 specific dead spots in my condo...

Also go to wireless controls, mobile network and see if you have 2g selected I have't had any luck with 2g (disables 3g) and it was on when I got my phone....

well I get edge everywhere I lose 3g in my kitchen and the master bedroom but no where else.... I also only have 1 or 2 bars in my house at any given time but as soon as I go outside it pegs to 4... I know it sounds weird but since I only live like 10 minutes from you at most I would say that our issues should be extremely similar... also if you have wireless internet at home you might as well use it... t-mobile can not bill you or limit you on your own wireless connections.... that is what I have done most lately.....

yeah you guys were right. i go outside my house for a minute and poof 3G.

3g coverage is still very limited.. however. =/

im in Houston, and i am getting excellent 3G coverage. also using my access point at home (wifi) great when using the market

yes 3g is limited to the la/sd area mostly right now. but they say when there expansion is done if feb everywhere will be 3g.
