Introducing MessageNow - Free Android-iPhone-iTouch Messaging

bbm needs a pin yes but they never said they would use bbm. with messagenow you have an account on their own server which pushes the message to you, it doesnt have anything to do with bbm... it would just be an app on the blackberry.

ok i understand that, so this is like every other multi messenger out there then? right?

i would pay money to have someone figure out how to get bbm on android....i have lots of colleagues i used to talk to on bbm and now we resort to txt's :(

mmm, pretty much. from what I gather though its a push messaging system, so unlike MSN or AIM where your phone is constantly polling servers and needs to stay awake to receive messages. Messagenow would actually push the messages to your phone similar to getting a text message, only through your data connection.

in that respect it could even serve as a bbm replacement if/when they port it to blackberries. so you could just have all your buddies on blackberries install it and noone would have to use bbm

jon i ran in to a problem last night, I had to swap out my Hero for a new one and had to create a new user name, please fix that this wont happen again to someone else.

We will look into how to achieve this properly in the future. Since we don't currently require a password, rather we associate the username with the device (more like the BBM way), it would be tricky.

@ The OP

I understand the idea and I like it , This would be good with a better UI and if everybody had it. I can compare this to Blackberry's pin service. I could Imagine Google creating this type of service based in Android to have {Then Again I suppose it is like GV?? } :)

We are striving to improve the experience as we go along. We currently also have Blackberry and Palm Pre versions in development, as we would like this to be a cross-smartphone messenger that everyone can use.

What would you guys like to see the most in upcoming versions?

how can you possibly make it work with bbm?

i mean lord i wish you could, but doesnt seem possible being that bbm needs a pin that droids don't have....

Just out of curiousity, when you setup BBM, you are given the choice to setup by pin or email. If one chose email, could it communicate? Otherwise, it sounds like a BB version is in development. YAY

I like the sound of this app, but I can't seem to use it. Downloaded, start the app and it asks for me to Set My Profile. I guess that here is where I log in, but putting a user name in and a ful name and clicking Check or Save gives me an error message "Error checking username".

I assume I need to create an account somewhere? Any help?

Did you make sure you have a data connection? (wifi, 3g, edge)

Funny - was in a good 3G signal area and had data (had only just downloaded the app) but wouldn't work. At home now using WiFi and connected okay.

Daft question, and I may be missing something, but all I have typed in is a user name and my full name. What's to stop someone else typing the same user name/full name into their phone? No password or anything? Seems a bit strange.

Once you select a username, that username is tied to your device, so no-one else can select it.
