Root New Unrevoked 3.21 Beta for FROYO is up

uhh... what?? Forgive my dimness but I have no idea what you are saying here.

I downloaded the utility and it said everything was successful after a lot of reboots and 5 minutes. I turned it on expecting to see everything updated to 2.2. Since this is the one-click method I assumed once i powered on after it said "successful" I'd see 2.2. Nothing seems to have changed, still the same 2.1.

Unrevoked does not upgrade you to 2.2, it just roots your phone.

What world do you live in ? If you want 2.2 you will have to flash the 2.2 RUU or .zip files.

Flashing ROMs/Firmwares/BIOS is all the same. It's simple, quick, routine...and if you fluck it up you have a paperweight!
Only time it's ever gone wrong was a laptop BIOS flash...the whole thing just shut off in the middle of the flash. Right away, I knew I was BONED. No idea why it died either. Full battery, plugged in, no power surge or anything...just....OFF.
Fortunately, I popped out the BIOS chip, sent it to a guy with the BIOS version I wanted, and *flip*, sent it back all nice and recovered.

Moral of the story, there's really nothing to worry about, except dumb damned luck. And ain't nothin will save you from that.

Ohh, and back to topic...unrevoked 3.21 RC0 got me rooted and unrevoked forever got me S-OFF.
I've since reinstalled my boot screen, removed bloatware. Thinking of a good splash screen...

Yeah Titanium seems to me a much easier method to get rid of the bloat programs then using the adb shell and the command prompts well its easier for me anyways... I'm assuming it does the same thing can anyone confirm this for me?

Seems to be working for me. I removed a ton of stuff yesterday with Titanium and there are no traces of the programs anywhere that I can find.

was 2.2 officially released by verizon? I hadn't heard that.. I rooted my 2.1 back in the day, and have since installed half a dozen different 2.2 ROMS. I guess I don't understand how you could get 2.2 without having already rooted? Is it for the people who installed the leaked, unofficial version of 2.2?

also, semi-related, does unrevoked.com/forever root/flash recovery or does it just turn security off? The way I understand it is I have to first go to unrevoked.com/recovery to root/flash recovery, then go to unrevoked.com/forever to turn security off. is that correct? I only ask because my speaker is blown so I'm going to have to get a new Dinc which means re-rooting and all that jazz.

The differences between rooting 2.1 and 2.2 is just that it requires a slightly different process (certain things in the OS were moved and relocated).

Verizon released 2.2 via OTA beginning on Aug 27. It's been out a while now. The RUU was leaked within a day and you could manually upgrade with that.

You didn't need to be rooted to get 2.2, you either waited for the OTA from Verizon to hit your phone or you used the RUU to manually do it yourself. Neither option requires root.


As for your new phone... when you get your phone it will probably already have 2.2 on it. If it doesn't, apply the RUU. Once you have 2.2, you can use Unrevoked latest program which has unrevoked and unrevoked forever all-in-one. So it will root the phone and get your S-OFF all in "one click" (actually... a couple of clicks but you get the idea).

you seemed to understand it well enough. I was unaware that verizon had officially released 2.2. I know there was a leak awhile back that people were using but there were already enough stable ROMS at that point I wasn't interested in the leak.

you also answered my other question perfectly, which was that unrevokes new program roots, installs my custom recovery, and turns the security off. Thanks! See I rooted the hard way in the beginning so I havn't kept up to date much on what unrevoked has been doing.

No, you can still root 2.1 the same way you did before, using that same unrevoked program.

However, there is a new program to root 2.2. You said you were getting a new phone so I was just giving you a heads up that the new phone will probably already have 2.2 on it when you get it so you will not be rooting the same way as before.

And if it doesn't have 2.2 pre-installed for some reason, I would highly recommend getting it before you root. The Unrevoked root for 2.2 is WAY less complicated and it completely all-in-one (not having to do unrevoked and then unrevoked forever). I honestly didn't even consider rooting my phone until this thing was released and I saw how simple and awesome it is

I got the paid version right off the bat, but I can tell you that AmazonMP3 was the one app that it wouldn't uninstall. No idea why. I was able to freeze it (a feature in the paid app) so at least it's disabled and not running. Everything else uninstalled perfectly.

I might remove it manually at some point but for now I am good with it being frozen.

I think I figured it out. I am pretty sure I disabled it last night in the Command Prompt (it was late, can't remember), but it was still there this morning. Titanium wouldn't let me do it. I actually went into the Market and uninstalled the update for it, and its gone.

Now to figure out what else to get rid of.
