Root frustrated trying to install 2.2 from rooted 2.1

I am trying to install 2.2 over my rooted 2.1 using clockwork recovery and the linked file from the original 2.2 rooted thread. Everytime I try, I get to verifying current system, then I get assert failed... apply_patch_check("/system/app/AdService.apk", then a bunch of other numbers, then E: Error in /sdcard/droidx_rooted_froyo.zip (status 7), Installation aborted.

I have tried everything I can think of. I have unrooted and tried to install the straight up 2.2 leak file through recovery mode, and get the same error.

I have reinstalled adservice.apk, still get the same error.

I am new at this stuff so I am relatively dumb, but persistant and I would like to fix it.

If somebody could help straighten me out I would appreciate it.

Matt

I have done both these things and still come up with the same error.

If you just want a clean 2.2 then just install it off of rom manager.
download rom, stock images.
And if you want a custom rom it is an extra step but the same process works you just have to do it a second time for the custom rom.

this is what I was getting at, but I am a Bot so I take it step by step:D

I get the same error when doing this through rom manager's version of 2.2.

Are you Stock and have no themes installed? Bot show this guy where the directions are for doing this I know there's a thread somewhere with step by step instruction. I love ordering Bots around :D And make sure he has the bomb so he can fix anything he breaks.

Actually I found some reading for him or her

Droid X

Read everything you find there and then try again:D

Alright, it is fixed. Thank you everybody for the help, here is what I did. Flashed an SBF per the link given above, booted into recovery and wiped the cache, but did not wipe data. Went back to rom manager and 2.2 rooted loaded up slicker than greased eel poop.

Thanks again for all the help, these forums rock.

I'm not even going to ask how you know eel poop is slick

Is anyone around who can help me? I just rooted 2.1 and want to install 2.2. The last thing I did was delete logwrapper with ROM manager so I could install it. now i am stuck on the (M) logo screen.

Hmmm I didn't delete or rename anything to do with the logwrapper. There's plenty of threads on this board that state to just use the Droid X Bootstrapper and ROM Manager to get the 2.2 install done on a 2.1 rooted phone.

Did you use universalroot 1.6.5 or higher for your rooting?
