Dust or No Dust?

Do you have a dust issue?

I have NO dust with a "with Google" version. I've had it for 2 weeks, so maybe that isnt enough time, but if ANYTHING is going to go wrong, including dust under the screen, I'd like it to happen NOW within my 30 day return/exchange period.

I do wonder, though, if some people are just really dirty. Reading all the complaints about dust and the silicone skins being "dust magnets" - I'm just not having that problem. Throw your phone in the ocean, you'll have some "water issues". Keep your phone is really dirty, dusty areas, you'll have "dust issues".

Those of you that do not have dust under the screen are lucky for now. It will eventually happen. It is known defect in EVERY HTC hero so far. I have gone through 3 of them and have been going back in forth with HTC for a while now. I carry my phone in my pocket which probably causes the issue to appear sooner. I am actually sending my phone to HTC to be repaired cause I am sick of the issue. Exchanging it is a pain, and does not resolve the issue. Just a heads up.

I completely agree. AFAIK all phones are affected by this issue - some people either don't have it yet or don't notice it. You only really see it with the screen off in direct sunlight or under bright light.

Yep, everyone with 'no dust issues' are either:

carrying their phone
not pocket stuffing
lying
ignorant

ALL phones are affected by this, I am on my 5th hero, all for dust and dead pixels.

I got my Hero Dec 1. I looked just now and noticed a have about a dozen dust specs in the upper left side. I am within the 30 days, obviously, to exchange my Hero for another one but I want to know if HTC has began to ship out Hero's with the fix. Anyone have the scoop on any new info regarding this ?

Still no dust in mine, and I look very hard.
I do carry mine in a case logic camera case. It zips up and provides some shock protection. I do not agree that it is an across the board problem however. Some phones are not treated like they are a fragile piece of crystal and they have the wear and tear to show it. I baby mine to a fault. Seems to be hit or miss if you ask me. Some will never get dust under the screen.

Just my opinion.

My first hero had dust under the screen right out of the box, I removed the protective plastic and BAM dust under the glass. Good theory though

I actually decided to send in my phone to HTC. After replacing the phone 3 times, I was fed up and wanted a dust free Hero. They gave me an RMA number and I sent it out. I told them I want it repaired, and not replaced. I am hoping they re-seal the glass to the LCD but I am not sure what they plan to do. The only downside is that it can take up to 2 weeks. So right now I am using an old Blackberry (which is painful). I am hoping to get the Hero back soon and use it throughly to see if they in fact do repair the dust issue for me. I will let everyone know how I made out.

They did not charge anything. However after about a week and a half, I receive my phone back. I open the box, and it turns out they did nothing! I called HTC and was ready to lose my mind. They told me they had no idea why nothing was done and they would get back to me. They never did. I am so done with the phone and with HTC. They have some of the worst customer support I have ever seen. I really liked this phone and Sprint, but I can not put up with a device with a major defect like that. Good luck.

Ive had this phone since nov 29...just noticed dust in lower left corner. Its not bad..maybe 3 specks. Im still within the 30 days but i got one of the hard cases and it dyed the phone blue!!!! I doubt they will exchange it. I guess ill use it till its real bad and pay 100 for a new one with my insurance....the only thing that makes it a lil better is that i only paid 69 bux for the phone. Oh well...love the phone.

Hopefully htc will do something about the phones...
