HTC EVO Premium Services - A conversation with Sprint

I have a Hero and use just as much data as a co-worker that has an Evo. Let just call it an "awesomeness fee" and be done with it.

I wonder how "Awesome" the EVO will be, when Verizons "EVO" device appears.

Currently, I pay Sprint
$70 for their "Everything" Data plan
$10 for the "Premium data" fee
Total = $66 after corp discount (only applies to Base plan)

Verizon charges
$60 for their 450 min talk and Text
$30 for Data
Total = $72 after discount (applies to the unlim data and the Talk and Text

I am willing to pay the $10 fee for now, but I dont think I will be on Sprint for much longer, if they dont have 4G in my area or cancel the fee. My friends with Verizon are getting much quicker download speeds.

$6 to get back on Verizons network.... might be worth it next time.

I'm seeing a lot of comments about Sprint being cheaper than ATT and Version, but no one has mentioned T-Mobile.

Even with my employee discount through Sprint, my bill ends up being more than a similar unlimited data plan on T-Mobile ( that actually has faster speed.)

That might be all fun and good, but for the most of last year, T-mobile had crappy phones. Not only that they gave me horrible service. I was with them and their rep even told me that they had no messaging plan so they charge me $.20 per text. I was being charged more than $80 for basically 500 minutes and some texting. I didn't even realize this until I looked at my bill (I had automatic deduction from them).

Besides that, until the Vibrant they had crappy phones. I mean AT T had the Iphone, Verizon had the Droid X, Sprint has the EVO....what did TMobile had... the hideous My slide or whatever it is. What good is it when you have no decent phone to use your fast network??!!

Right, but last year is gone.
Now they have a phone that is almost as good - if not better than the Evo.
All without the 'premium' fee tacked on.

I'm waiting on a fix for the GPS issue to make a switch.

As far as customer service, I have had horrible costumer 'service' through Sprint.
I'll risk getting crappy customer service with T-Mobile. At least I'll be able to get decent speed out of a phone, unlike my Evos.

Last year mattered because people, like myself, were looking for new phones. Who am I going to go with...hmm company that ripped me with bad phones or a new company with a decent phone I want to use. Besides the Vibrant has other issues and not just the GPS (not saying the Evo is perfect by any means). And I'm certainly not going to break my contract which will cost me like $300 bucks for the "not greater than Evo" Vibrant, although the color is beautiful though pixelated. And in all honesty, when I go to say like Starbucks, my 4G is way faster than their service through AT T and many other wireless that I have experienced. Just my personal experience of course.

The Evo has only been on sprint for 2 months. So if you were looking for a phone last year... it wouldnt have been the evo.

Please everyone knew what I meant!! That for the longest time TMobile had sorry phone even though they first launched the G1. If you really want to nitpick, it has been out since June so that slightly more than three months!

My gen 1 iPhone bill was almost 100 a month with tax with unlimited text but on edge and no nav or insurance.

My girlfriend had a black berry on Verizon that had shitty signal and cost 110 a month

on top of that high speed internet here is about 60

Now we have an epic and evo on family plan that we also use as our home internet, with insurance, premium data, and corp discount our bill is 130 for everything. Basically we save more than we spend (140 a month)

That may not be true for everyone, but thats why you have to be a smart consumer and make your own decisions. Don't try to call fraud on something you decided on yourself, that's just bs.

Get your facts straight, for one. The Evo doesn't have a VGA camera. It has a 1.3 MP front facing camera, the other being 8 MP.

Second - Why are you so gross and nasty to someone at Sprint? Did you want Adolfo to kiss your ass just to make you happy? Are you the exception above everyone else? No, you aren't.

Just like everyone else said, get a different phone. The time you spent complaining about a $10.00 fee, you could have done something to earn it.

I just finished a chat with "Adolfo" from

Sprint... I had a question about my eligibility to upgrade my phone. I asked him about why do we need to pay the extra 10 bucks. He told me it was for the "premium services"... I asked him what premium services would I get... He could not name them...

provides capabilities that were never previously available on a wireless device so now you will have the best
combination of both - speed and features.

5:21:35 PM : Adolfo T: You will see an increase in speed all around with this fantastic device simply due to the hardware/ software onboard.

No, I am not sure what you meant. Which Sprint phone was sooo much nicer than any T-mobile phone last year?

The Hero came out in October/November, I didnt pay any attention to sprint prior to that.

I guess I have to spell out every single little detail. What I meant was:
1)In general I think Sprint has better phones than TMobile
2)When I was looking for phones which was two months ago, the Evo trumps anything TMobile has

The My Touch was horrible. I took one look and feel of it and it was a no go. And yes, this is MY opinion since I'M the customer.

So, unless you can convice a majority of users how an Evo is more data-intensive than a Fascinate, Vibrant, Captivate, Droid X, Droid Incredible, etc. (most of which have similar hardware and screen sizes), then that excuse is laughable - at best.

They've been convincing people like crazy.

Those other phones mentioned all have one thing in common...they cost more per month than the EVO.

You need to evaluate Verizons plans more carefully, you're definitely not comparing comparable plans and you're missing a couple of Verizons charges that would be necessary to make the plans equal.

You know, nobody is bringing up the fact that current VZW pricing is going away before the end of the year. They are going to tiered data very soon - as soon as LTE is ready.

@tqlla You are also comparing "DISCOUNTED" rates... That's something that not everyone qualifies for. If you look at the direct comparison for what most people have - it's $90 to $80 or $240 over the life of a contract - that's a bit of a difference. If you look at the family share plan, it's even more - $150 (Sprint) vs. $190 (VZW) or $960 over the life of a 2 year contract...

Plus, you don't get (and if you don't use them it's all good) Mobile TV, Football or Nascar software on VZW's pricing, which is included in Sprint's plans. You also aren't limited to what network you get free minutes to on Sprint's plan where as on VZW's you only get VZW minutes free.

I never use 4g even though I'm in a 4g area simply because I have excellent 3g service and I'm using well over 4gb's of data a month if not more and that simply by downloading apps deleting apps redownloading apps reading the news uploading pics to facebook reading facebook. I could not do that on any other network let alone being able to rely on my network at all times. I paid the 500 dollar early term fee to leave Tmobile for the entire 2 months I was with them. The phone call quality was HORRIFIC and if I wanted better quality service maybe I could go to Verizon but for the 4 lines and 1 data card I have with sprint for just over 220 a month including tax, I SERIOUSLY doubt I could afford what big red would have to offer. I tried to switch to them with just TWO phones and my bill was 189 for a family plan with comparable minutes which again doesnt matter since with sprint I HAVE UNLIMITED MINUTES seeing as any call to ANY mobile phone on ANY mobile provider does not come out of my monthly minutes. With 1500 minutes to share, I use roughly 300 total. Now my nights weekends and m2m I'm using atleast 3500.
