I'm sure the screen is glass, but is it as hard as the DROID? I went to Verizon to get a case (they didn't have the one I wanted), but the guy was pushing for screen protectors (I know it's also a sales thing, I used to work for Verizon.) But are we ok without a screen protector? I guess the Vibrant's screen is Gorilla Glass also. But is the Fascinate?

All Samsung Galaxy S class phones have Gorilla Glass. While it is very scratch resistant it is NOT scratch proof. Anything harder than the glass will scratch it (such as grains of sand). The Fascinate has a really nice screen. Do you really want to take the chance of scratching it up? If it were me it would have a screen protector as soon as it left to box.

I personally would not recommend a screen protector. Been using the Fascinate for over a week and there isn't a single mark on the screen (that includes having a 2 year old son who decides he wants to throw my phone). The only reason I would get a screen protector is to have the anti glare look and the smooth feel the anti glare screens have.

I haven't used a screen protector on my smartphones for at least 2 years. As soon as I realized how annoying they are on a capacitive screens, I gave them the boot. The stickyness completely ruins swype/gaming/ in my opinion.

I used my Incredible for 4 months w/o a protector and it's scratch free. I used my iPhone 3GS for a year before that and it was scratch free when I sold it.

Bottom line... be careful with your devices and you won't have an issue. And no matter what you do, DO NOT PUT YOUR PHONE FACE DOWN ON ANYTHING! I have to remind my wife of that almost daily.

Just my two cents.

Screen protectors are always a plus, it adds another layer to screen just incase your phone manages to hit something that's harder than glass then your screen protector (depending on the quality of it) will protect it.

My friend has one of these on his Captivate. He's tried about five different brands of screen protectors, and these are his favorite by FAR. They don't have one for the Fascinate yet, but I'm sure they will soon. He says that they feel like glass. Super smooth and very strong.

He advises to get the ultra-crystal, not the fingerprint resistant, as there are reports that the anti-fingerprint anti-glare ones actually affect image output.

Do you have any idea how long it took for the to put the captivate screen protectors out after the phone was released. I really want to get one of these for this Fascinate . I'm not really scared of scratches I am like the other guy thinking about all the other things like spills, etc. That being said too, if you ever go to the beach or on vacation its probably guaranteed that the screen is getting scratched, because you cannot avoid sand there.

I hope they get it out sooner or later. I bet if a bunch of us start emailing them requesting it, they might work a little harder/faster since now they know there's real demand, and customers know about them. I want one of these really bad.

I'm tired of the ones you buy in the store. They all add a certain amount of "rubberyness" to the screen. My friend, who is even pickier than I am, says these feel and look just like the glass. And for $14 you get two. That's not bad considering the competition. It's still a lifetime warranty, as well.

Based on things I've read and videos I've seen on Gorilla Glass - I get this impression that it surpasses normal glass for durability.

However, I noticed someone mention that things like sand will still scratch it. Which puts its surface still on-par with glass. Is this an accurate assessment?

I'm afraid to try, but I am curious if normal sand will still scratch it, given its improved strength (or is it just improved durability?)

On Launch Day I "keyed" the demo model on display for a good 10-15 seconds. Im not talking grazing Im talking sawing. Nothing. Im not getting a screen protector I believe in the gorilla glass

Keys aren't as strong as sand, though. Keys won't scratch normal glass either (or they shouldn't).

Sand however, since it is similar in strength to glass, will scratch glass (much like a Diamond generally needs to be cut with a Diamond).

I guess I could take a handful of sand to a Verizon store and try it, but that seems kind of mean...

:pLOL yeah. All I had was a key, I was fresh outta sand and that would be a tough explanation.

Well ultimately that is your call [no pun intended]. I'm pleased with mine but there is no universal best device. By all means if you don't like return it. I might advise using the full 30 day trial but if you are already certain its not for you, make the move.

Cape Cod huh.... go Sox!;)

The guy at the verizon store sold me an anti-glare screen protector and I HATE it. It complete ruins that beautiful screen that sold me on the fascinate in the first place. Whites look like millions of colored speckles. In fact, everything looks speckled. He said that they wouldn't have any screen protectors without anti-glare for awhile. I'm considering going naked...
