Help Will motorola milestone 2 come out in canada?

I am debating the exact same thing... Personally I prefer the look of milestone 1 (somehow the 2 just doesn't do anything for me, i absolutely love the cheesiness, i mean the "classic look", of the black and gold combo.. but maybe that'll change), and one of the issues for me is that I don't want to commit to a contract. I can now get the milestone for ~$400 off craigslist/ebay, etc. - the telus contract is just way too long and expensive, especially since I don't plan to get internet on the phone all the time.

On the other hand, the milestone 1's bootloader is still (the last time I checked) locked, so it's questionable whether it will get any future updates, even if you are willing to do the work and flash it yourself. That's kinda annoying. Then again, there's nothing stopping motorola (?) from locking down the milestone 2 as well.

Oh, and if you plan on using AGPS on your phone, I think you have to root your phone in order to get around Telus' gps settings.. just another fyi if you're planning to unlock it, unless of course you're with telus (i'm not, because i prefer to have the ability to go to 2G, but that's probably not important for most people)

So my suggestion to you is that, if you are willing to commit to a 3-year contract with Telus (or could afford to buy the phone when it comes out for $600, $700, or whatever it's gonna cost), then i think waiting for milestone 2 may be a good idea, the milestone 1 will probably look pretty slow (comparatively) and dated by then. Hopefully it won't be too long of a wait - fingers crossed!

The only thing that bothers me is the android updates, I can live with the Milestone 1 specs and everything else, i will overclock it if I really find it too slow compared to the Milestone 2(I heard Milestone 1 could be overclocked to 1gz np). I would just be angry to buy the Milestone 1 now and see the 2 coming out in 2-3 months. But if I compare to what usually happens in Canada Milestone 2 would come out at about this time next year so...

I love my milestone, but the milestone 2 does not do it for me. Its running motoblur and that does bog the phone down a bit. Original Droid users have said the droid 1 overclocked feels faster. I myself am running Motofrenzy 2.2 running at 1 ghz and the phone is super fast. My next phone will be the Htc Vision/Tmobile G2 if it comes to Canada. The Milestone 2 does not deserve to be a successor

You can use any 3rd party homescreen replacement and that will stop blur from loading and will run smoothly.

I really think we will see the Milestone 2 in December for sure, maybe even November. The way the HTC Desire is selling, I really think Telus will start stepping up big time with new Android devices. I know as soon as the Milestone 2 is released on Telus, I am leaving my BlackBerry.

December is toooooooo faaaaaaarrrrrrr awwwwwaaaaaayyyyyyy. It does seem a little too early for it to come out now since the Original Milestone just launched a little more than 6 months ago but one way or another I need to get a NAM version of this ASAP!!!!

Two words: don't bother.

Motorola are being stupid with non-US owners, and Telus will treat this just like they treat anything else, updates and support will be non-existent- even the original Milstone hasn't gotten the long overdue 2.2 update. What's worse is the Milestone 2 will ship with Motoblur while the American Droid 2 doesn't, what a stupid decision.

Excuse me? Are you sure you are talking about Motorola and Android?

Milestone was release with 2.0 software originally. We got the update to 2.0.1
We got the update to 2.1 later. 2.2 was released in JUNE 2010 - 3 months ago and you are saying it is LONG OVERDUE? You must be kidding!

What is wrong with Motoblur? You can replace it with Launcher Pro and forget about it forever, can you not?

Are you saying you got 2.2 via OTA from Telus? And Motoblur is pretty bad, it's a part of the OS like HTC Sense is, you can't get rid of it however with newer Motoblur (like the Charm) you can skip registering with Motoblur though you can't use the Motoblur widgets. This is why Motorola isn't a good idea anymore:

Canada
BACKFLIP (Canada)Will remain on Android 1.5 for the best combined hardware and software experience
DEXT (Canada)Will remain on Android 1.5 for the best combined hardware and software experience
MILESTONE (Canada)Initial rollout of upgrade to Android 2.2 planned for Q1 2011
QUENCH (Canada)Will remain on Android 1.5 for the best combined hardware and software experience
Also Telus "promised" the HTC Desire gets the 2.2 update within weeks after release (mid August) and so far nothing while the majority of other carriers around the world already pushed it OTA, same goes for the new LG Shine Plus, they're saying that it should get 2.2 very soon.

I did not say I got a 2.2 because it is not relased yet. I am saying that it was released for all manufacturers, which means they have only had 2.5 months or less to work on it. So because of Sense HTC devices are no good and because of Motoblur Motorola's are no good? Are you crazy? These are things that can be replaced, never used. Besides, Motorola will stop using Motoblur completely as their CEO announced

What does this have to do with Milestone 2 release?

If they're going to stop using Motoblur, why would they release the Milestone 2 with it?

I am just repeating what their CEO said. Everyone knows Milestone 2 will have Motoblur, but that does not mean all future devices will have it.

What is so bad about Motoblur that you hate it so much?

I don't use any of those social networking sites. I don't need the extra bog down. I'm happy with my Milestone 1 so doubtfull I will upgrade, and besides I would be paying full price because I just started my contract.
