How have you adjusted to touchscreen keyboard?

Eagerly awaiting my Incredible! I'm only a little apprehensive about losing the physical keyboard. Can anyone provide any information on how hard it was to transition from a physical qwerty keyboard to a touchscreen keyboard? My only prior experience with touchscreen was a Samsung Glyde and I wanted to frisbee that phone.

I came from a phone with a physical keyboard. The speed of the Incredible really makes the touch-screen typing go smoothly. There was a small transition period of like 2 days, but after getting used to it it's not bad at all. The only thing I find myself wanting a physical keyboard is for game emulators, but the touchscreen controls work ok.

Coming off 2 years with a LG EnV2, it was a bit of a challenge for a couple of weeks. I actually missed the number pad more than the full querty my EnV had. I was actually faster typing texts on the dial pad than typing them with the qwerty, and I didn't use t9. I have never been able to get used to t9 and still don't use it on my incredible. But after using my incredible for about 2 months, I'm almost as fast as I was on my EnV.

What saved me when I first got my phone was that the Android autocorrect is awesome. Its really accurate no matter how bad you misspell a word. And it is very easy to add words into the dictionary so that helped too. But I still have to say, Apple's IOS on-screen keyboard is still far superior to Android's. The keys so much more spaced out. Since I got my incredible, everytime I type something on my ipod touch I'm like , this so much easier!

I've had the phone for about a month and honestly i'm still trying to get used to it.
I used to text at the speed of light on my blackberries. Texting on my Incredible totally gets me at times especially with punctuation. Because with blackberries I would just press the shift key and then the punctuation i needed. With the Incredible I have to long press BOOOOOOO (unless someone has basic info I haven't caught on to).
I purchased the app "better keyboard" and it has this skin called "dark grey". It's helped me with my process for sure. The skin shows the keyboard with gaps in between the letters which helps me more accurately press letters.
it'll be awhile till i'm back to physical keyboard speed. I'm going to take a stab at downloading the multi touch program though and report back!


I'm not an app type of person. Only apps I really use is my crossword app and this camera app that adds nice effects to pictures.
So to be honest...if Blackberry came out with a new phone that had a 8mp camera and signature qwerty board (no slide out. I think theyre gross) then GOODBYE incredible.

I highly suggest you find the Droid 2 keyboard port on the xda forums. It's much faster than the stock Incredible keyboard, and the layout is much better. I had an LG Dare previous to the DInc so I've had plenty of practice with on-screen keyboards. If you know the layout of a normal keyboard, your thumbs will find their way.

No. Were it not for Swype, I would not text or post much at all with the Inc. I also miss a real keyboard since game emulators are iffy and most Flash games do not work, since they need a keyboard.

I wish the Epic was released on VZW. Need the keyboard. Inc is okay, but the gamer in me needs the real deal

That all said, I actually prefer Swype to a real keyboard.... ironic. Gaming is opposite.

In regards to the Droid 2, I prefer the keyboard on the Epic and the display. Another issue with the Droid 2 is the "odd" screen dimensions.

I have never had a physical keyboard. Started typing on an Iphone so I am used to it. To be honest, I prefer a software keyboard.

Well... one of the big reasons I got an LG Dare was because I didn't want a keyboard so my answer would be no.

Took me all of 15 minutes to get used to it. It's the same qwerty keyboard I was already used to, just used in a slightly different way. It did take me a couple of days to get the hang of scrolling with my finger and not actually opening things I didn't mean to open.

Everyone I know who has/had the original Moto Droid stopped using the physical keyboard within weeks.

So the way I see it, why have all that extra weight and bulk when you just don't need it?

i dont even use the landscape keyboard i only use the portrait because even if you hit the wrong key on either spellcheck will more than likely change it to what you meant to type so even if your not good at typing on it spellcheck will just fix it for you

Don't feel bad, I absolutely hate Swype and am having the hardest time trying to understand all of the hype. I tried many times and it just didn't cut it for me. So, you aren't alone.

I think there must be some sort of mental block for some people. I have a friend that can not get used to it either. Out of curiosity, is the problem for you the fact that you have to anticipate the spelling of the word? I know this was a fear for me at first, making me over think the process and screwing up. But I eventually got over it after using it for about a week. It definitely re-wires you brain a little to make you think differently.

I think that is a main part of it. I know the qwerty keyboard by touch, but with Swype, I can't seem to guide the "line" to the letters I want. I have to keep thinking where they are and by the time I do, some really wrong words have popped up. It's like I forget where the keys are with Swype.
