I talked to the verizon dude and said that everytime i turn on my phone overseas i am going to get charge.

I told him what if i had my phone on airplane mode and on wifi.

he told me doesn't matter you are going to get charged.

i keep arguing what if i go to mcdonalds in germany that has free wifi. He said doesn't matter I will get charge.

Is he telling the truth.

No; well, he may think that he is, but he is wrong.

WiFi with airplane mode will not result in a charge. Not only that, as far as I know, there is little to no CDMA networks in Germany, and Verizon has no roaming agreements with anybody in Germany, even if there was a CDMA tower somewhere.

I would use Airplane mode, though, to keep the phone from searching for a signal, which would drain the battery.

Just leave it in airplane mode and you'll be fine. Besides, you'll save more battery that way anyway.

i knew i was right. I kept arguing with him. And he was advising me to leave my phone home, get a calling card and write down important numbers.

Very true. There are some very knowledgeable reps and techs out there, many of them on this very forum, but some of them are beyond clueless.

I am going to start making it a point to speak with a supervisor when I get someone who has no idea what they are talking about. I just think it is the right thing to do.

Talking to the guys supervisor, I think, would have been a good idea. Verizon prides itself on customer service and this guy was doing you a disservice in every way.

He is right that the phone will continue to look for a signal and while Verizon has very good coverage there is no way in hell that it is strong enough to cross the Atlantic. As others have already said, you'll be fine.

I guess the rep proves one thing as long as you say it with confidence, you can pass bad or misguided info to just about anyone sometime or another.

This coming from a former Kirby Vacuum salesman. Some of the BS I watched them pull on people to sell them a 1200.00 piece of metal is a true art form.
