so here i was, running around the house all dressed up going to the wake of a friends father. Driving mach speed getting there with plenty of time left over (about 730pm monday night) i get out of my truck, DX in hand, put on my suit coat, and then, in SUPER SLOW motion...there falls my droid......WHAM!!!! face down on the asphalt....

i turn it over, and sure enough, shatterd screen.... F*&%!!!!!!!

called verizon at 9 pm, droid will be here TODAY!!!!

btw, the dx still works!!

i'm curious to know the quality of the replacement. does it have any scratches or blemishes? please let us know (or at least me). thanks

I've purchased many refurb electronics from many companies (DeLorme Earthmate PN20, Microsoft Zune 30 (two of these), SanDisk Sansa 2GB...), and I've never gotten one that looked like it was anything but new. I'll bet a dollar that when he gets his refurb DX, he won't be able to tell it's not new. The best things about refurbs to me: whatever problems they had are already fixed, and you are basically getting a brand-new unit with a full warrenty for a discounted price! I <3 refurbs!

I thought they did for the first momth, guess that's only manufacture defects.
Yes, only manufacture defects, and even then it's debatable. But when it's an insurance claim, they can give you whatever is available.

way past the 1st month now.....and its all good....but now the 30 days starts again
Don't think that's the case. You may have updated 30days for manufacturer defects, but that's it.

I wouldn't be too concerned, I had to have my X replaced & went to the verizon store. The replacement I received was much better than my original (booted faster, buttons less jiggly, screen looked better).

I'm sure it wasn't new since it did not come with the battery cover or memory. Maybe the returns go through additional QC?

I just like my replacement much better than my original.

the 1 that i shatteres was actually a "certified like new" or whatever verizon calls it.

the shutter got stuck closed and i was on the 30th day of the manuafactures warranty. but since i got it at bestbuy for their promotion...i had to settle for this 1.

i'll tell you this, the replacement was much better, faster, and it didnt seem to eat the battery as much.

this 1 however i will be getting a NEW battery, or replacement, whichever.either way, i am going to charge it up, use the hell out of it, then see how it compares to the 1 i have to see which 1 i am going to keep.

any suggestions as to how i do that tho?

I loves me a refurb! That means they have been through a torture test and survived. I'm still running a refurbed 21 year old Amiga monitor daily as our back-up TV in the dining room. It even survived falling off my desk and dangling by it's cables during the 1994 Northridge earthquake! I would rather have a refurb than a new item any day of the week.
