Will Android 2.2 let us save apps to SD card?

I only heard about this today from a telus rep. I thought apps were saved to internal when that was full it moved to sd automatically. No it only goes to internal memory DANG! so that means i can only have a few downloaded at a time

Whats the solution???

Will 2.2 fix it? I heard 3.0 will?

Since upgrading to 2.2, I've managed to regain 7.15 MB of internal storage by moving 13 apps to the microSD card, but it'll be nice when devs start encoding the move to SD option in as standard (and as more update their apps to add this option), because the majority of my apps don't yet support being moved to SD.

As long as the apps support it, you CAN move the app to your SD card although a part of it will still exist on the internal memory!

Is froyo the new name of android 2.2?? I want 2.2 if its available officially

Yes. Each version of android is named after a desert in alphabetical order.

1.5=Cupcake
1.6=Donut
2.0-2.1=Eclaire
2.2=froyo
3.0=gingerbread.

Not sure about before 1.5

Yes 2.2 does, but only if the application developer includes this in his code.

the only real way to save all your apps to the SD Card is via rooting the handset and applying a custom rom. You can then use apps2sd.

I haven't done this yet as I am too much of a chicken.... lol

I am waiting for FroYo to arrive on the Orange network in the UK and if this doesn't fix my limited internal memory issue, then I will look to root.

Go into Settings -> Applications -> All, then you can select an application and if it can be moved to the SD there will be a "Move to SD" button.

This can take a while if you have a lot of apps, so a good app is SDMove, which shows a list of all apps which can be moved to SD card, and if they are currently on there or not.

I'm running CM6 at the moment which allows moving almost all apps to the SD (even ones which don't officially support it) and am still having issues with space on the internal memory. This is because even when moving the app itself, the app still (usually, maybe it's a side effect of them not officially supporting SD card?) stores any data on the internal memory. Additionally, copy-protected apps refuse to be moved to the SD card.

To make things worse, the dalvik-cache is stored on the internal memory, which takes up a lot of space. Out of the 147Mb on /data, I have 17Mb of apps, 61Mb of dalvik-cache and 32Mb of app data. Moving some of this would be nice, but from what I've read moving the dalvik-cache or data to sd card can be unstable.
