After seeing many negative posts about the Vibrant and other Galaxy S phones, I just wanted to post a thread about a positive experience.
I bought my Vibrant on day one (7/15/2010). I have enjoyed my phone quite a bit and I haven't even rooted, changed the launcher or done the lag fix.
Let me list the things I enjoy about the Vibrant:
1. I love the freedom of Android. I like not having to sync to a program like iTunes when I need to add files to the phone. I like being able to download things like sound files right off the internet and immediately drop it into the ringtone folder and have it immediately be available as a ringtone.
2. I'm really enjoying the fantastic speed of the T-Mobile network with my Vibrant. I have to admit to smiling a bit when I see people on other networks post their speeds for the other Galaxy S phones. When I have 3G service, I often get excess of 3000+ down and 1000 + down. I have seen better than 4000 quite a bit. I even did a speed test while driving at highway speeds and gotten well over 2000 down and 1000 up! I can even enjoy HQ YT videos at highway speeds with no.issues. I'm constantly surprised at how fast the web is on the 3G. Some of the 3G speeds people are posting on the Epic forum are lower than my Edge speeds!
3. While I might be in the minority, GPS for my use has been effective. A have used it for multi hour trips through New York City and always got me to my destination without issues. It could lock on faster at times but it normally does not take more than 30 seconds. Could it be better? Sure, but they are working on that. I hope that Samsung will release a GPS fix soon so many users afflicted with GPS issues can use their GPS effectively without frustrations.
3. I enjoy the thiness and the light weightness of he phone. It slides effortlessly into my pocket and doesn't weigh my pants down. It make living with it that much better. I don't want a hunk of metal in my pocket. Doesn't feel cheap to me.
4. TouchWiz is okay. It hasn't been the nightmare that some postings made it sound like. Sure there are lags from time to time but nothing unbearable. It adds some nce features as well.
5. Screen is effective. While a high density display like iPhone4's would be nice, I have bad eye sight anyway so I lke to blow the fonts up big anyway.
6. Like the fact that side loading is so easy unlike ATT.
7. Battery life is good enough. I typically have over 50% left on the phone when I get home from work. That's good enough for me.
8. MicroUSB cables are cheap. I got my 3 ft cable for just over a dollar.
9. 3D games are fast. Every 3D games I tried ran smooth as butter. Just wish there were more games.
10. It's a fine multi-media player. Plays my videos without having to covert them. Plays music ncely as well. Even found a MOD file player! (XMP works very well.)
11. Love the huge built in memory. With a 32GB card, we can max out our Vibrant at 48 GB. I haven't seen an iPhone with more than 32 GB.
12. Even works great as a phone. I'm enjoying my unlimited text as well.
All in all, enjoy the heck out of my phone.
