Fascinate GPS and audio issues to be solved with 2.2

I stopped in my local VZW today and was told that all GPS and audio issues are supposed to be solved with the upgrade to 2.2. This info was given to them by their Samsung rep so take it for what its worth. They didnt have an exact release date but said it should be just a few weeks if that after the X gets 2.2. I hope they are right.

The crackling I do get, but what GPS problem are you talking about? I tried Google Nav the other day and it worked fine for me. But I only did a short trip to test it out. Is there something I should be watching for?

The main issue with the gps is consistency. Some times it works amazingly and i'll be able to lock on almost immediatly while other times it can take an upward of 10mins to finally get a lock on. So it is some software issue with google and the phone. I went to verizon yesterday and the rep said an update is on its way, just not sure when.

Yea i had that crackling/feedback that happened when I talked loud on the first fascinate I got. I got the same update speech from the tech guy at the store, but told them I'd like to try a new phone anyway...

My new phone does NOT have the annoying feedback/crackling...Well only to a VERY slight degree.

I don't think I could have put up with longterm use of the first phone the way it was... but perhaps mine was especially bad. Not sure if that means it's mostly a hardware issue? or some have buggy software.

Also, my screen used to get uncomfortably hot while talking. My new phone does not.

It has a bit of annoying lag at times, but nothing too distracting, and after setting some bookmarks for google search and using the "voice search" widget, I really could do without the hard search button till the fix.

I'm definitely happy with my new phone. :)

I take everything Verizon people tell me with a grain of salt. More often than not, they actually have no idea what they are talking about. They'll say whatever just to make a sale. Until I see an official report from Android Central or Droid Life, this is just a rumor.

Agreed 100%! I am a former VZW employee who worked at retail store. Trust me, any upcoming fixes or updates never gets passed to the store level. Most of us reads the same forums as you guys do, so our information came from the very same sources as what you are reading right now.. so don't ever trust them about any upcoming updates or fixes.

Good insight Pekkle. Kind of what I've always thought. And you can tell who cares about educating themselves (if only with public 'outsider' information) and who is just there 'cuz its their job.

Not unique to the cell phone industry. I'm a "car guy," and I pretty much always know more about the car than they do, kind of like most of you guys and phones. It cracks me up when car shopping how salesmen will just start taking about a car, usually knowing nothing about it and almost alway knowing nothing about competing cars they're trying to talk out out of. If they're arrogant about it, it's always fun to ask them about gear ratios or something like that, and see them try to explain it.

If they just want to show up for work, that's fine with me, but don't act like you know something.
