Epic 4g vs iPhone 4 vs Droid 2

i honestly think the evo should've been up there. it was the first handset besides google's own nexus to get 2.2 and it is indeed a super phone. just my opinion.
While true, the EVO would have been the only phone in that lineup without a GPU... and extremely slow in comparison. I can't think of too many features the EVO has over these phones other than its screen size... which is why my EVO sits on the corner of my computer desk unused :p

That being said, this reviewer is like a 14 year old kid. I just can't take him seriously when compared to people like Phil Nickinson.

Misinformation ftl, the Evo has a GPU, and you would find it as fast or faster in the tests shown. Smoothness is another question but it was not a factor in this comparison.
.... are you kidding me? All this guy had to do was run neocore... or nenamark1... or gl benchmark 2.0... and you would see just how futureproof that age old snapdragon is.

the Epic has the Hummingbird, modified Snapdragon. It's modified to be faster than the original, which tests prove. The only different phone that compares in speed is the Nokia N8 with certain tests. It also has the amazing screen only found on samsung devices, which you can see pretty well in the sun, and has a million to one contrast ratio. Gorilla glass is always a plus too.

WTF are you talking about. The hummingbird processor is not a modified anything. The snapdragon is created by Qualcomm, whereas Samsung makes their own processors.

There are plenty of devices that compare in speed... such as the Droid X and iPhone 4 as they both use the same GPU (PowerVR SGX 535), but the Epic's is faster (PowerVR SGX 540).

I don't recall seeing the Evo in this comparison so it really doesn't matter. But since you mentioned it, load up Asphalt or any other graphic intensive game and you'll see how the snapdragon processors stack up, meaning they don't.
By "it" I meant the evo. Fortunately, benchmarks don't actually do anything, so in real use the evo ends up as effective or moreso.

Samsung hired a team of people to build it for them, and it is built very similar to the snapdragon. They both have cortex a8 cores. Just because different people made them doesn't mean they aren't very alike. The hummingbird was made to be an improved version of the snapdragon.

a lot of televisions share the same panels but differ greatly in the electronics that surround it and produce the picture. But to say one is just an improved version of the other because they share the same panel isn't really accurate. Or like two people baking cakes and saying they're pretty much the same cake because they both have eggs, flour and water as their basic ingredients.

why are people hating on the evo lol? everyone loveeeeed the evo when it first came out, and rightfully so, but now the epic has come out. yes it has so many things going for it, screen hummingbird more video formats (and other things), but that doesn't mean the evo isn't in its league. the evo still has a lot more going for it imo like build quality (just feels better than the epic), bigger screen (the .3 inches really do matter to some), htc whom imo is better than samsung when it comes to support and stuff, and of course the kickstand haha. bottom line, yes the epic has a lot going for it and just may be better than the evo, but that doesn't mean the evo is completely inferior and not on its level, and that's vice versa too. just my opinion though :)

People pretty much always defend whatever phone they buy, thats just how it is! lol

Are you kidding me? Go to any EVO forum (here or XDA) and you cant click somewhere without landing on a thread full of people bashing the Epic. It's just how people are with Sprint phones right now.

I actually have both phones and while I don't hate the EVO, it's pretty much useless to me now. It doesn't do anything my Epic can't, but my Epic can do far more. So when the EVO using Epic haters come around, we get heated up and fire right back.

I own both too, and I don't hate the Evo. I just needed a hardware keyboard. One for typing, and two for the often overlooked screen real estate. A 4.3" screen does zilch when the keyboard takes up 2/3's of it. I actually like to reference what I'm replying to or writing about and on slate phones all I see is a text box and nothing else. Makes working in Docs To Go very annoying as well as trying to refer to someone's email or what not while typing a reply. I think Sense polishes up Android better than Touch Wiz. The overall screen size is nice, but when it comes in handy, I'll take the better contrast and colors over the .3". And from an internal hardware perspective, the Epic wins. I wish the keyboard layout was a little nicer. Do I really have to have redundant home/menu/back/find buttons? A little laser engraving on the screen or keeping them lit while the screen is on would suffice. Then the keyboard could've been stretched to have a more traditional layout and slightly larger buttons. But once you get used to something, it's not an issue. The keyboard is definitely better than the Moment even if it's not as good as the TP2.

The funny thing is some will just continue to keep posting wrong information to support their bias. Not to name names, but it's quite obvious who it is. Regardless, when people do post blatantly biased and negative info about one over the other, it's just easy to not give it any sort of validity.

I agree, but the fact of the matter is that they copied the snapdragon. They took a plain cake and put frosting on it. Not that I'm mad, I love that they improved it..this thing is fast! This is sort of like the difference between a celeron processor and a i7.. the i7 is a celeron with upgrades.

The evo does have some things above the epic still.. like the larger screen, thinner..not everybody likes the keyboard. It feels more solid to me. I also love the htc sense. I'm sure there's more but I've never used one so I'm not sure. The galaxy s super amoled screens are clearly the best, however. I love how I can see it outside in the scortching texas sun. And I use the keyboard.

Just because they share the same Cortex-A8 cpu does not mean they are copies. ARM has dozens of licensees that use their CPU's. In this case Qualcomm to that CPU and created the snapdragon. Samsung took it, collaborated with Intrinsity and came up with the Hummingbird. Qualcomm used the inferior Adreno 200 GPU in their Snapdragon chipset, and Samsung used the PowerVR SGX540 which is one step above the processor in Apple's A4 chipset that uses the 535.

TI's OMAP processors are also Cortex-A8 based and use the PowerVR GPU. Are they too copies of the snapdragon? Don't think so.

ARM created the cpu and instruction set. They license that tech to many. How those companies go about designing their chipset from there does not make them copies of one another, plain and simple.

You may as well just stop because at this point I think he is spouting nonsense. Until I see source material that says Samsung "copied" the snapdragon processor.... juzcallmeneo's posts don't mean shit. He is just speculating on something he knows nothing about.

Ok, then let's go with your idea.. samsung didn't copy anything.. They had no idea what a snapdragon was. They just randomly hired some guys to build a processor without any ideas of improvements in mind.. just totally random. No reason for starting with the a8 or anything

..heres an interesting article to read: http://www.fastcompany.com/1686739/the-samsung-mo-find-a-successful-product-copy-it-adequately
